I just bought one and it came with a adatptor in heat shrink

I have one of these, case was never opened up, and I get 11 meters by just pressing the 'man' button- It shows the expanded CB channels, and works great. Don't know if it was ordered that way, I got it second- hand. Good luck!

The RCI 2950 / 2970 family of radios are a wonderful group. They use pretty much the same circuits in the 2995 bases. The part in the heat sink is the mod chip. In the newer 2950 / 2970 radios, it plugs into a 3 pin plug that resembles a plastic power transistor socket at the end of a hanging wire behind the front display. I'm not sure where it would be in the base but look for one of these tied to a wiring harness inside the radio. My 2970DX would also go all the way to 12 meters with the adition of a two pin jumper plugged into another plug inside the radio. I don't know if this applies to the base units or not but look around inside if you're interested. The only hitch is when you activate this option, you wipe out everything in the radio's memory like channel presets and such. When I set mine up, I connected the plug to a magnetic reed switch in the back of the radio. When I wanted to listen to it, I would place a strong magnet behind the radio, turn it off and on and I was set. This way, I didn't have to drill any switch holes.
ONE LAST CAUTION!!! If there's a lightening storm within 3 states of your location, UNPLUG your antenna. I had a bolt hit a tree 30 feet from my antenna and blew the processor out of the radio. You can tell when this happens when it is locked on transmit on 28.000 MHz Bye Bye $200.00.
