Question about Mitsubishi VS-50501 50" Rear Projection Television

Vs-50501 50inch projection with no picture only sound!

Help!
I have a Mitsubishi VS-50501 50 inch Rear Projection Television that my wonderful father gave to me. However there is no picture. When turned on I hear the audio only. We've had this TV in the family for roughly 11 years now and it had fantastic picture quality. I want to get it repaired but is it still worth repairing and will parts still be available? How much would this cost me if you have any idea so I know what hole I'm putting myself into. Any help will do thank you!

    Hi Absrvcs.

thanks for such a quick response. Yes i can solder and I am comfortable working inside the set but i know nothing about capacitors or what they look like. I would love to diagnose and even fix it myself without any labor cost would even be better. As far as I now, there is no blinking lights and absolutely no picture but there is audio and i do hear the fuzzy sound of the tv such as the same sound you get when you get no cable channel signal.

    Dan,

I turned on the TV, it seems like it has picture but very dim and after a few minutes the picture goes away and is totally black but with sound. I haven't open the back panel to check out the boards but do think this problem can be fixed? I don't want to get started on probing without your expertise.

    thanks again,

    glady

Are there any other symptoms like blinking lights on the front or just no picture? This could be as simple as a few capacitors being bad or something more severe. Can you solder? Do you feel comfortable working inside the set where there are potentially dangerous high voltages present even with the set unplugged? Let me know and we'll work through the diagnostic process and hopfully resolve this.

Thanks,
Dan

Look at each of the boards and resolder any connection that appears grainy or has rings and update this with your results. We'll continue from there if necessary.

Lets eliminate the simple stuff first. Try the resoldering first and update this with the results. Once that is completed, try to provide as much detail about what happens as possible and we'll diagnose from there. I still think that there are bad connections that are changing circuit characteristics enough to show up as odd symptoms.

"r" usually means resistor if they are burnt it will be hard to identify the band colors on them for thier rating. Depends on if they are quater watt, or 1 watt the diameter size and where they are locted in the circut if its afffecting your picture power. If they are loose from the board means it over heated, resolder may help.

Mitsubishi VS-5071 rear projection turns on, has audio but no video

That is a VZ3 chassis, similar to Mitsubishi models Ts-4545, Ts-5045, Ts-5545, Vs-4543, Vs-4544, Vs-5043, Vs-5044, Vs-5047, Vs-6043, Vs-6047 and has common failures in the vertical circuit, specifically vert Ic401 which is a La7845 which is usually caused by defective C402 100uf 50v and/or open 1.2 ohm 2 watt R510 next to FBT.
If not that check C268 off Q215 on signal board 22mf/50v and Ic200 on signal module Cxa2025s. However the vertical failure is more likely.
