Question about Microsoft Internet Explorer 7

Missing Favorites in IE7

I am stumped and need help. I go to look at my favorites and it is gone. I get an error message saying that favorites points to a location that is unavailable. However, when I try to save a location that was on my favorites it says it is already there do I want to write over it. So it is there and the computer can obviously recognize it but when I select the star I see nothing and then get that error message.

I have found the favorites folder and tried to import it and that doesn't work. I don't know what else to do. I can see history in the favorites section - just not my favorites.

Has anyone had this problem and if so, can you please tell me how to fix it.
Thanks so much

    I have Vista

It doesn't give me an error number but says the following:

"c:\users\cp\downloads\favorites\favorites refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location."

It has been noticed that if Favorites folders (including subfolders) lose their system attribute they may not appear in the Organise Favorites window.
Try resetting the system attribute from the cmd window using the following command (make sure the path is correct for your machine).
ATTRIB -S C:\Documents and Settings\username\Favorites /S /D

    else
    Run Antivirus

    Kill all Virus

    Restart

    Reinstall IE 7

    Restart

..mostly Favorites in IE 7 are stored in:
    \Documents and Settings\username\Favorites

Your IE6 favorites are imported automaticly into IE 7. At top left, on the line where tabs appear, click the plain Gold Star, then Favorites to view them.

Good options posted here. Also, going to control panel/programs and features. Select IE7 and do the repair installation. If you have not tried firefox yet you should give it a try.

Google chrome will not load

A BEX error is Something to do with a Script Bug or registry error
and Roughly translated Its a Buffer "Exception" Bug

So the only thing I can advise you do is Uninstall Chrome (save your Chrome favorites) Link is on the Start menu
Then run system cleaner Reginout
Reinstall Chrome from the Google address (Install your Favorites) and touch wood all will be good again?

NOTE: When I googled this I discovered the BEX error (code) also is used with other applications and browsers.

How to save my favorite website on Internet explorer?

Welcome to FixYa!
Just click on favorites on the top of the page of internet explorer(located alongside the section where you could see files, view, etc..) then click Add to Favorites. Then just click Add. You could also create folders for your favorites if you'd like and you could see on the favorites tab as well.
Hope this helps! Thank you for using FixYa!

I cannot restore my fire fox toolbar, and my favorites have all gone after i ran some new software cleaner.

if you lost all your favorites and bookmarks, it can only mean that the cleaning software deleted your files. if thats the case, your toolbars were also probably uninstalled. downloading the toolbar agian should solve the problem.

Had the same problem. Went to the IE8 home page (Microsoft). They are supporting IE8 at no cost until Dec 31. Wait time was minimal, tech took control of my computer and fixed the problem you described in a few seconds. Sorry, I do not remember the exact steps.

This fix works for both missing IE7 tabs and missing Desktop icon in Display Properties. Good luck!

Open up a command prompt (cmd.exe from "run") and enter the following;

REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer" /V ClassicShell /T REG_DWORD /F /D 0

This should sort out your problem.
