Everyone who has a 30 gb zune is having the same issue. if you go to the Zune website, click on help, and check out all the posts. it happened around midnight. No word from MS yet on how to fix it, or what to do.

I have the same problem. It froze when I tried turning it on this morning. I've googled it for the past hour and nothing useful is coming up.[hold up and back/down and back, yada yada yada]

    It's a conspiracy.

Same thing is happening to me... 30g Brown Zune

  • toylude Dec 31, 2008

Same issue, I have 3 30g zunes that are all stuck on the loading screen. Reboot and reset not working and its starting to heat up. I have a friend that just got one for Christmas 120g and its working fine so it seems to only be an issue with the older ones. I didn't pay this much money to run into these issues without a resolution!

Is this only happening on the 30 GB Zunes?

  • jatherton60 Dec 31, 2008

I have the same issue. The battery has drained and I am attempting to recharge it. I hope this works. Sure seems funny that this same issue occurred around the same time. I smell a class action suite.

Mine is frozen also. Shows the black background with Zune logo and ZUNE underneath the logo. Also has the white line accross the botton. Tried a re-set but got nothing. Tried plugging into computer and nothing.

Hello today is 01/01/2009 8:57am PT I know it's been a few headaches the last 30 hrs and I just got my Zune back from the no where land it's working, god knows for how long.
I let the battery drain and this morning I plug to my computer to the point where it restart and it work I open up the zune software I guess there should be some update by now, I did nothing like some other sites tell you to do, caution! think about a possibly recall on this units, maybe you get a credit to get a new one.
I guess that will be a best solution for Microsoft to avoid any law sutes.

eeh, this is a pretty bad problem. I would ask you if you had a warranty, but you took it apart... I can only suggest getting a new one, not a 30 GB because that one seems to have the most problems. Fixing it though, you could ask the Geek Squad about it. Next time it freezes, just wait for the battery to die, then charge it and restart it.

My Zune 30GB is frozen on the start up thing!

Disassemble and disconnect the battery for about 10 seconds. All Zune 30's apparently siezed this AM. MS is working on their solution, not sure when it will come out. The battery disconnect is at least a temp fix. Mine works fine after doing it.

My 30 gb zune is frozen

There's a fix:

Your zune will need a "hard reset."

To do this, use a small screwdriver to pop off the plastic shielding where the zune cable plugs into and remove the two screws on either side of the plug. Next pop the cover off and locate the battery plug at the top left corner of the zune, using your screw driver, pop the cable connection half way off, and do this to the other plug on the right side. Wait 3 seconds, then push down the right connector and then the left battery connecter. Your zune should start up immediately. Press the backing of the zune down (make sure headphone jack is aligned) and put the screws and cover back in place.

It's an easy process but if you're unsure don't attempt it.
