After installing new black and color carts, my printer did the test sheet. I then wanted to print a photo and the red light came on and now even after re-installing and cleaning the carts and the light will not go off. What next step do you recommend short of buying another printer.

hello, you are using the photo color ink cart, have you tried running a cleaning cycle or test print, the reason why i ask, is that maybe 1 of the colors is not printing, the test pages would prove what color is missing, if black not printing, it would print possible blue, or no black at all. i know you have put in new inks, but since the volume of ink in these cartridges run out according to usage, one color might run out before the others, and since black and yellow are the most used colors, without them your prints will show color faults.
You need to go in printer propertise then click test print, then follow the steps. and after all step you will see your printer start working like before. after install a new cart. you must follow those steps.
Gill: I have the same problem as Sheillz (Sept.15, 2009)
have installed a color ink printer and both black and color lights of cartriges
are still blinking and I cannot print anything at all. Not even a test
The little cartridges are pigment for photo printing. The Large black cart is ink for plain paper (usually text) printing. If you select a photo paper in the print setup menu, you will use very little of the ink. To check the function of the large cart print out a test sheet from the printer maintenance menu. You may need to run a head cleaning to get all the nozzles to work.
Even with out the Black cartridge installed the X1240 should use the color cart to make a "composite" black. I would suggest calling Technical support to troubleshoot that issue ad get you to test the cart itself
Epson 777 will not print. No paper jam. Power light flashing; red error light on steady. Paper does not feed; if paper supply is placed deeper in feed, entire paper supply (about 12 sheets) feeds thru as one sheet normally would , without printing.
