Question about Western Digital 500GB My Book World Edition 500 GB Hard Drive

WD My Book 500GB

Have just purchased this from Amazon, but when I try to connect to Western Digital the website will not load. Indeed the IPs for westerndigital.com and wdc.com apparently do not exist!

I am unable to access any form of support at all from the manufacturer and so have no clue as to how to use the device. The purpose of buying it was ease my nearly full C drive by transferring data across.

How can I do this, and do you have any info regarding contacting WD please?

Hello,

That's an interesting issue about the website. Try doing this: Go to Start/Run/ and type cmd and then Enter. Type in there ping www.wdc.com and see if you get positive replies.

However, I think all you want to do is get the external hard drive working. You should have received a cd with the hard drive. If you did, then put it in and run it. It should take you through some type of wizard. Once it's installed, you should be able to go to My Computer and see another driver letter.
Double click on it and it should be empty or have some default folders. You should be able to copy an paste the files you want to save into it. Let me know what happens.

Hey, matt here. This link should work to their support section. It could also be that your anti virus is blocking the site saying that is not secure? hope this works for you. Matt

Have you attempted to contact you service provider? I assure you that the domain does exist. I went there before posting the link.

WHAT IS THE INPUT VOLTAGE AND AMPS OF A 500 GB WD EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. I LOST MY ADAPTER

You can normally buy a replacement adapter from Western Digital from this link, but they are out of stock at the moment.

As an alternative place to purchase this, it looks like you can buy it on Amazon.com

My hard disk is western digital 500GB sata blue caviar 16MB 7200RPM .... it stopped working toady with no reason, it was working fine yesterday night, when i wake up today i found its not working any more...

> stopped working toady (froggy? today?)

It "died" -- either the electronic circuit-board "under" the "spinning" part of the disk-drive has short-circuited, or the motor that spins the recording surfaces has quit.

You've tried it on another computer -- so you've done all that you can.

Any 500GB disk-drive is likely to still be under the W.D. warranty.
Open the enclosure, and get the model-number and serial-number from the label on the disk-drive.
Then, access the W.D. web-site, and click "check warranty status", and enter that information.
If the warranty is valid, W.D. will replace the device, at minimal cost to you.

If the warranty has expired, W.D. has a "Customer Loyalty" program -- purchase a new W.D. device from the W.D. web-site, and you qualify for a good discount on your purchase.

Or, remove the disk-drive from the enclosure, buy a replacement, compatible, disk-drive, and "transplant" it into the enclosure, to create a working external storage device.

Yes. The case doesn't care what size the drive is. The computer is just asking for the USB driver for the case. Check the WD site for the driver for the model of MyBook that you have. That should cover it.
