I have a 1986 toyota corolla SR5 and the problem that i am having is when im driving my car i come to a stop sign or a red light and i pull it out of gear to put it in neutral but like two or three seconds the idle drops to about 600 RPM and the car starts to shake but when i give it a little it go away but then it starts to rev up about 1100 RPM which is too high so my question is why does it shake when i put it in neutral and also why does it idle too high because this car use to get about 30 miles to the gallon and now if im lucky enough i get about 20 to the gallon

Don't think there's anything wrong with it. That's pretty normal for mine. If it's unusual behaviour for your car, check your coolant level. I almost ran mine dry last year and found in the days leading up to it that my idle revs were sitting around 2000 once the car heated up. If it turns out to be that I can give you some real handy tips for changing your coolant and flushing all the junk out. Much cheaper than a mechanic and good if you have a spare hour.

Idle is factory set and cannot be adjusted, your best bet is checking for cracked hose pipework for air intake at idle,(not at problem under exceleration and driving) Any slight upset to the air /fuel ratio will be most prevelent at idle speeds.Check hoses where the meet metal flanges on manifold intakes and any sharp bends in ppipes.Good luck

looks like yor air valve is not working properly.check the water imput (could be clogged). also, did you removed your termostat? if so,put it back and solve the problem.

well for catflea question everyday before i start my car up i always check my all my fluid from my oils to my coolant so i dont think that would be the problem but if you have the time i would like to here your tips on how to flush out my coolant and as for test test my ae86 is carbureted and we just had all the lines redone for the carb and when the issue happens its usually random like one min its fine even though its idiling at 1000 RPM and the next it will drop to like 500 rpm and start to shake alot the thing is it like the car whats to turn off and only some times when its moving but not as much as when its not moving, so how do you adjust the choke on a carb?
