I took the motor of my trolling motor apart. I had an issue getting the brushes back on but figured that out. A couple of the wires came undone and i plugged them back before closing the motor up. Now the trolling motor doesnt work. It makes a subtle buzzing sound in the pedal and the head. one of the wires in the head got hot near a connection. I repaired it. It still buzzes. i can feel the wire buzz. i believe it was the red/black one. What could be the issue? I am going to take the motor back apart and check that i plugged them in the right spots but im almost certain i did. i have tested the outlet and the connections at the board. I get 12 and 24 volts in certain combinations but im not sure exactly what will determine if its working.
My guess is you either have a brushwire against the housing or the leads are on the wrong terminal. the red/black goes on the same as the lower brushwire and the black goes on the same as the upper brushwire. The motor should have a 60A breaker, assuming you have 6ga wire. If wire is smaller than 6ga, the breaker should be downsized. To test the control board, check the voltage in and voltage out. Voltage out should vary as you turn the dial.
