Question about Braun Flex XP II 5790 Electric Shaver

1 Answer

Intermittent lack of full charge

When the unit was about 2 weeks old, started getting occasional case of charge not lasting long enough to finish shaving. Happened several times. Sent to repair center; took 3 weeks while waiting on parts. Got it back and seemed to be working OK. Now, started same thing again. Repair center said they replaced chassis and battery. Works OK if use the cord all the time, but I bought it t use without the cord, except to charge. Seems like this model is a lemon.

Re: Intermittent lack of full charge

It's the holiday season - take it back to where ever it was purchased and tell them you got it for Christmas and you would just like to exchange it for one that works. They have a 2 year warranty, if you want to go the hard way. You won't need a receipt, or a box. I spoke with Braun Customer Service and they advised me to just take, the one I had, back to the store where it was purchased, and get a new one. This is a great time of the year to exchange it. The Braun Customer Service number is 1-800-BRAUN-11. I'm glad, I just exchanged the one I had, because, my father says it's the best shave he has ever had.

Running slow

These will not charge while motor is running, so be sure the unit gets a full charge. If it still is running slow the battery is most likely past its prime. They only last between 1 and 2 years. Good luck.

My 7800XL twice dropped to the floor from a height of about 2 feet. Shortly (but not immediately) after the second time, it refused to turn on. Once or twice, I could get it to run by knocking it against...

check the metal tabs on the batteries to see if they are in tact. dropping the unit can break one or both of the tabs causing a lack of connection. also chech the back of the circuit board where those same tabs are soldered to the board. these can also crack from such a jolt. if either of these are the issue, you can repair with a little electrical soldering

I am looking for a manual for a Philishave Model 805 electric shaver. How do you know when the shaver is fully charged. The green light is always on solid from start to finish

I don't believe that there is an on-line model for this model as it is an older model. The charge time for this model is 16 hours. There is no indicator to tell you when it is done.

Braun Clean and Renew not working

I took the file on a nail clipper and turned the impeller inside the unit. Remove the cleaning fluid from the unit. Turn the unit upside down, On the part that sticks into the large hole of the fluid reservoir you'll see the impeller. Just turn it it enough to dislodge any whiskers and try it again. Worked for me. Good luck

Braun Pulsonic 9595 Razor will not hold a charge ... where can I get this repaired in New Hampshire (03110 area code)

You can replace the battery yourself. The battery can be purchased from Amazon: and to replace it you will need to remove the rubberized back from the case. The black rubberized back is snapped into place on the silver case so to remove it the first thing to do is to remove the retaining screw. This screw is a Torx T8 and you can see it inside the socket for the power cord. Once this screw is removed, carefully insert a small blade in between the edge of the back and the case at the end away from the shaver head and gently pry up on the case back. Once you get a large enough gap, you can grab the edge of the back with your fingers and pull it off the case working toward the shaver head. The edge of the back by the shaver head has a small lip that slips into the case so it needs to be slipped out of the case edge last. Now you will see four Torx T8 screws holding down the plastic back to the silver case. Remove these screws and pull the back off the case straight up. You will now see the battery you need to replace in its holder. Remove the old battery from its holder and push in the new one in the same orientation. Replace and screw down the case back, snap on the black rubberized back and replace its retaining screw. Charge up the battery and you are good to go.

Battery won't hold its charge, could I get them replaced? Could I replace them myself? If so, with what type of battery?

Rechargeable shavers use either a NiCad or NiMd batteries.

In order to get the correct battery, you need to check your shaver model number and check the following link to see which your shaver uses.

You can buy it from them or find them elsewhere, if you wish.

You can do the repair yourself if you can disassemble the shaver case, which is usually held together with a couple of screws normally hidden behind plastic caps.

Then once the shaver covers are off, you can unsolder the old batteries and replace and resolder the new one in. You'll need a decent soldering iron to accomplish this.

When done, put the case back together and allow it to charge for a good 8 hours before using. It typically takes a few recharges to get the batteries able to hold a full charge, but you should be good after a week of use.

Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

How to change battery in Norelco 5841XL razor

You remove the four phillips screws on the back of the shaver, remove the back, cut the metallic ribbons on the old battery leaving the part still connected to the circuit board as long as possible (ribbon is soldered to battery and to circuit board and you will do too much damage trying to unsolder it). Now solder the new battery's ribbon to the piece of the old battery's ribbon that is still soldered to the circuit board. When you replace the back, try the slide power-on switch on the front to confirm the shaver shuts off and turns on with the slide off/on switch. If it stays on or won't turn on you probably do not have the small piece below the circuit board in place correctly. It must slide properly to turn power on and off.

Norelco model 5885 XL Battery replacments

I just installed two brand new Eneloop cells and it will only charge up to 35 minutes on the display (I had been able to get up to 52 minutes with the original NI-CAD's). I also discovered that it would not recognize the capactiy on the minute meter until I drained the batteries and recharged the unit. When I went to drain the batteries they ran for 2 hours and 15 minutes!!! But again the display only shows 35 minutes right now after an hour charge when it says FULL. I'll leave it on the charger and see what happens. I used a pair of needle nose pliers and "rolled" the metal tabs off the NI-CAD's. Snapped the one on the negative side but got the positive side off clean. I couldn't get the strips to solder back to the new Eneloop batteries so I had to use electrical tape which seems to be holding fine. The battery holder holds the positive and negative terminals against the old tabs just fine. Also I learned that if you hold the power button on long enough it will cycle through a test function. It will go to zero minutes and all the way up to 35, then turn on and go back to zero stopping at the appropriate cleaning cycle times (takes about 40 seconds to do the test so don't touch the power button until it's done). Not sure if the batteries will still go 2 hours and 15 minutes after being charged in the shaver, but they do when chaqrged outside the shaver. Just my two cents!
