Sony vaio lcd screen turns black after start up

graphics card software fault. start the pc and get it to bring up the start menu where you see options such as safe mode, usually holding down f8 when you boot. (If all else fails whilst windows is loading hold down your power button to power it off then it should automatically ask you what to do.)
select restore to known good configuration.
If that does cure it boot to safe mode and do a system roll back (restore) to an earlier time when it did work
If that doesn't work, also in safe mode you can try removing the graphics card drivers and forcing it to load windows default drivers. then update from the website.
If nothing works, not even safe mode then you'll need to use your windows disks or recovery discs. If you fear losing everything then try downloading and burning a ubuntu live disc on another PC and use that to load your laptop then copy and back up your files to another drive or usb stick using the ubuntu operating system.

I was updating my avg when my granddaughter touched a button on the computer. She knew she did but does not know which one. Anyhow, the screen went blank. The mouse appears and I can move around but it...

There are a couple ways to fix this , 1. When you turn on the computer as it's booting up start pressing the "F8" button on your keyboard , your pc should load up to a black screen with several options in white text to choose from , try "boot using last known good configuration" , if that is unsuccesfull repeat the previous steps & this time choose "boot safe mode". If you can at least get it to boot into Safe Mode you can undo / repair the changes that occured .

2. If you can't even boot Safe Mode , you can try booting your pc using the operating system installation disc / recovery disc that came with your pc . Once loaded you can select to repair your current installation . Then sit back & wait till it's done , it will reboot & you should be presented with your login screen .

After notebook boot up, screen is black and blank, what to do?

I am assuming it is your user profile which has got courrpted.

I will recommend you to boot with Safe mode. To boot in safe mode, power off your laptop, turn it on and as soon as you OS loading logo, hit F8. You will be given some options to boot with. Select "Safe Mode".

2. Once logged in as administrator in safe mode, create another user. Boot your laptop normal and then try to login as newly created user.

3. If everything seems normal with new user then we know it is user profile of the old user account.

If not, then let me know the if you were even able to boot in safe mode.

Lcd screen broke external monitor wont work

Sounds like you resolution is too high or vista doesn't recognise your driver.

Try starting in Safe Mode by powering up your PC and tapping the F8 key until you see a menu. Select Safe Mode from the menu. Once in safe mode change the resolution to 800x600 then restart in normal mode.

If that doesn't work then download and install the correct drivers for your display card here;

ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_3680/

Once downloaded, you may need to install it in safe made once again.

Thanks

Vista to xp professional

Addition to previous post: You can also try Safe Mode to correct your video issues, too. Restart your computer or turn it on. Count to three, then start rapidly tapping the F8 key on the keyboard. Choose Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking. Let it load up. Try info from previous post in Safe Mode.

Stupid blank screen on my Craptop

Could be a simple video driver problem, try starting up your laptop in safe mode (Pressing F8 on boot up). If and when screen comes up highlight 'Start Windows in Safe Mode' Next a list of startup drivers etc will stream down the screen and tell you you are starting in safe mode, allow this. If your lcd screen stays on then it's a driver problem, go to add/remove programmes and uninstall driver the driver and restart your laptop. This should then start in VGA mode all icons will be bigger than normal. Either re-install video drivers from setup/restore disk or go to laptops manufacturer website to download drivers. If no screen even in safe mode LCD probably dead. Please rate solution.
