Need some more details. How much RAM? What point are you in the install? Error message? Blue Screen?

Try cleaning the CD with dish soap and water, u may have a dirty disk, be careful (don't scratch it). Try using a different XP install disk from someone you know, just use your product key instead of theirs when it asks for it. Your install disk is failing.

What Service pack of Windows XP are you using? A 1TB drive will require SP2 or 3. Also, does this board require "AHCI" drivers (hitting F6) to install special boot time driver.

It sounds like a boot time driver. The other option is that there are bad blocks on the drive. That will do the same thing. However, check into boot time drivers, Visit http://support.asus.com look up this motherboard and see if there is a "SATA driver" required .

If your Hard-drives are set in RAID mode or any other mode you would need to change your CMOS settings and configure them as IDE this can only be done in CMOS and if you want these features to be but back when you install windows XP be sure to boot from the disc and press f3 to install a raid driver

Problem installling Windows xp SP2 with P4VMA-M Mainboard

If your trying to install it over the current installation then select Format at the installation screen of XP setup. In order to do that you would have to boot from the disc, that way you don't have to load windows. Also when you have completed and installed XP, try to locate some software to detect what drivers you need. I use driver detective and it worked fine for me, or alternately send me a message and ill run you through how to check the motherboard for the version manually.

PC spontaneously rebbots

Hi rogermx,
You’re temperature is great. No trouble there. You can try this with Windows XP. Open system properties. Click on the Advanced tab. Go down to, Startup & recovery. Click the settings button. Remove the green check mark next to: Automatically restart. Click Ok. Than restart your system. The next time you're system does a restart all by its self you should receive an error message on screen. Hopefully you have time to write it down.
Post the error message here if you can't find a fix for the error.
Windows may need the system to restart a few times before you receive an error message. Try this before I add more suggestions.

Good luck!
Mike
