First you need a program to open them with. PPS files are PowerPoint Shows which is a part of Microsoft Office. If you do not have Office, you can download a free PowerPoint Viewer at:

PPViewer Download

Comment back if you have any trouble.

  • Open up Windows Explorer. (The Windows Key + E, on many keyboards.)
  • Find any file with the PPS extension. For example somefile.pps.
  • Right-click on the filename, and select Open With ....
  • Even if the PowerPoint or PowerPoint Viewer is already listed don't click on it. Instead, select Choose Program at the bottom of the list that's displayed.
  • In the resulting dialog box you should find PowerPoint, or PowerPoint Viewer, and click on that.
  • Click the box labeled "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".
  • Press OK

Problem opening some attachments

You need to tell Windows what program you want to use when opening the file since you don't have any program installed that knows this file.

Do you know what kind of file it is? If not, you need to find this out.
Usually you get powerpoint or pdf files in your mail. To read these you need Adobe Acrobat Reader or Microsoft Powerpoint Viewer.

Short, You need to install a program that can handle the files you get in your mail. What program depends on the file.

To know what kind of file it is you have to se what "extension" it have (the three letters after the dot). Normaly you don't see this, but to be able to see it open Explorer and do go through the following:

  1. select Start -> Settings -> Control Panels -> Folder Options
  2. select the View tab
  3. check "show hidden files and folders"
  4. Uncheck "hide file extensions for known file types"
  5. Click OK to finish
Now, save the file on your desk and check the last letters of the file. If it ends with .pdg it's a pdf-file, if it ends with ppt it's a power point file.

If it ends with something else, it needs a different program. To know which, just ask again :)

Can't open .pdf file email attachments from Windows Mail (Vista)

Send yourself another known working PDF attachment and see if the same thing happens. If it does, post back. If not, then it most likely means there's either a naming issue with the problem PDF, or it is just corrupt enough to give you troubles when opening from email.

Windows mail and powerpoint viewer

From windows mail choose Options Then Security Tab. You can change some security behavior here for allowing viewing of attachements, however it will only work for certain file types. Others are prohibited regardless. IT's a measure Microsfot feels is protecting folks forcing them to save the file then open it. This allows Antivirus programs to fully scan the file before use. But it's fairly impractical.

If you get frustrated with WM, you might try Thunderbird from Mozilla.com Its free and far more flexible and robust than WM.

Right click the file, select properties. On the general tab, click Change (next to Open With). Hit the browse button and navigate to your PowerPoint installation and that should fix it. :)

You have to change your default association to your diaporama progarm.

Just right click on any pps file and select properties from the popup menu opend.

In the properties window you can find Change button.
Click on this button and change the default program from PowerPoint to another on which you needed.

Then Apply and make OK.

Open Files with .MSG File Extension Do you want to open a message with the Outlook .MSG file extension? The Encryptomatic MSG File Viewer makes it easy access Outlook MAPI message files (.msg files) created in Outlook 2000/XP/2003.
MSG Viewer reads .msg files encoded in western characters. It will display the text contents of the .msg file on your monitor. You can also print the message, save it to a text file, and extract file attachments.

Easy to Use Encryptomatic's Outlook .MSG Viewer is simple to use. It may be optionally installed as the default .msg file handler. This enables you to display a .msg file by simply double clicking it.
Extracts File Attachments from Outlook .MSG Message Files
Users can extract and save to disk any file attachments that were included in the Outlook .msg file, a useful feature not found in other viewers of this price class. To extract email attachments, just double click on the file attachment and save it to a directory.

viewer-screen.jpg What it Doesn't Do
The MSG Viewer is designed to give you quick access to an .msg file's text contents, file attachments and header information. It does not render colors, formatting or graphics, and it is not a full featured substitute for Outlook. With an RTF message with colored text and font formatting, the text will appear in black and white and the paragraph formatting will be lost (as in the message above). MSG Viewer displays only Western characters.
