Step by step is not easy on here, but if you remove the top, 2 diff types of units. you can get to the switch and replace the lever and switch with ease.
top filter type... remove 2 screws under filter, then pull forward on top then up almost at the same time.
front filter type.... remove control panel, hinge it back and remove 3 screws to remove the top.
then the same applies to remove the switch on both. 2 screws hold the switch to the front panel and either has a 2 or 3 wire plug on switch or will have 2 or 3 wires mounted right on the switch.
2 wire type, no drum light. 3 wire has drum light. if your wires are right on the switch, be sure to mark where the wires go before you remove the wires.

just make this test and fix it. God bless you

1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse. Check the wall socket for power with a voltmeter or by plugging something else in. Sometimes the power cord disconnects or burns at the dryer, if this is the case, the wiring and the terminal block must be repaired or replaced.

2. Door switch / Door switch actuator lever
The dryer would not start with a broken door switch. Replace the door switch if found defective.

Most dryers have a door switch actuator lever - when you close a dryer door, it presses against the lever, which actuates the door switch. If the lever is broken, the switch would not activate and the dryer would not start. Replace the lever, if broken.

Note: Door switch actuator lever usually comes with the door switch assembly and it is recommended to get the whole assembly since there is almost no price difference between the door switch assembly and just the lever. Check your model for more details.

Dryer will not turn on

If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch.

My Whirlpool just quit it just won't turn on was working just fine is this something i can fix myself?

Hi,
When most Whrlpool dryers do not turn on at all. The most common cause of failure is the door switch and the door switch actuator.
Here is how you can test this.
1 Empty the dryer of clothes
2 Locate the door switch actuator. it will be over along the top edge of where the door closes, just inside the lip. There will be a little (3/8th inch wide) metal tab covered in plastic. The is the actuator the is mounted to the electrical door switch. The door switch is a valuable safety device that prevents children, pets and adults from loosing limbs and other things in a spinning dryer. DON'T BYPASS IT.
3 The tab may simply be broken off. If you can push the piece and hear a clicking sound, it means the switch is probably good but the tab is not.
4 To test this push the tab in or jam a ball point pen in there until it clicks, turn the dryer timer on and push the start button. It it comes on, that was the issue.
WARNING: NEVER, NEVER, NEVER PUT YOU ARM INTO A SPINNING OPEN DRYER DOOR.
JUST DON'T DO IT. IT CAN RUIN YOUR DAY.
5 If you push the tab and get no click but a sort of springy action. The switch is broken.
Usually the switch replacement kit has both the metal tab and the switch.
That is usually it.
If you can supply me with the model number of the dryer, I can help you locate the right part and give some instruction on how to do it.
Hope this helps,
Best Regards,
Mark

Dryer wont start when door is shut

The first thing I would check is the door safety switch. Looking at the parts book, it looks like the switch is at the top. There should be a little slot with and actuator in it. The actuator is a little arm built onto the switch. If the actuator is bent, then the door won't activate it. I'm not familiar with this model, but some models have a tab on the door that goes into a slot on the cabinet to trip the actuator. On others, the actuator sticks through the hole so the door activates it.

Our whirlpool 6th sense dryer model awz3413 will not turn on

HI, check the following to address this issue.

1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse. Check the wall socket for power with a voltmeter or by plugging something else in.

2. Door switch / Door switch actuator lever
The dryer will not start with a broken door switch.

3. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Note: It is recommended by most dryer manufacturers to replace a hi-limit thermostat when replacing a thermal fuse.

4. Timer
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).

**The most common issue here will be a defective Thermal fuse
