VC recorder keeps on driving

Hi, This morning my wife could not get a cassette to eject. I took the cover off the recorder and 'muscled' it out. However, seems like I damaged the loading arm cog. Fortunately I was able to get a replacement here in Adelaide SA and install it. I had to mess around with the timing of the two loading arm cogs to get it to accept a cassette, but finally seemed to get it working OK.

Now when a cassette is inserted, none of the controls seem to function - it won't stop playing or eject the cassette. The player just seems to continually drive the tape slowly, even when the ON/OFF button has been hit. I have to turn the machine off and manually wind it out.

The drive belt seems to be OK - this was suggested as a possible cause of the not-ejecting problem. Can't see any other obvious problems.

Can you suggest a cause and solution to the problem.

Thanks,

I would appreciate if you could add this information:
Where is the sensor located, and what does it look like?
    Thanks

I think the problem is that the loading arm cogs are not in the correct timing position. Can anyone suggest how to time them correctly?

Unplug from wall outlet - find the wheel that ejects the tape when you slowly turn it. It's usually on the right side when the cover is open. Avoid touching any metal parts.

Chech to see if it is aimed at the clear plastic pin near the little black plastic gear in the middle. mine was out of alignment on the left one. Works know. Good luck

VCR ejecting my cassettes

Try removing the top cover & have a look to see what happens when you put the tape in & press play/rewind etc. Is the take up spool (right hand spool) turning properly or is there slack tape not being taken into the cassette? Are the heads spinning ? I think your problem is more likely to do with the tape not travelling smoothly around the tape path. Possibly the clutch gears need cleaned or the soft brakes may not be dis-engaging properly.

My ZR30mc video recorder will not eject cassette

Take the side panel off to see whether the tape is damaged and will not retreat into the cassette ( this will prevent ejection ). Remove old damaged cassette and insert new one. If the unit chews the new cassette camera should go in for VTR service.
