Hi, I have a Panasonic NV-FJ620 VC recorder. This morning my wife was using it and it would not eject the cassette. I took off the cover and got the cassette out, however seems like I forced the cogs on the loading arm and found that the plastic loading arm cog had some teeth damaged. I managed to get a replacement and put it in.
The problem now is that when a cassette is inserted, none of the controls seem to work - it just slowly advances the cassette, even when the ON/OFF button has been pressed. It won't eject, the only way is to turn it off and then wind the large drive cog manually.
I did search other problems on FixYa and one suggestion was that the drive belt was the original problem, but that seems to be in reasonable order.
Can you suggest what is the problem, and how to overcome it?
It sounds like you need a service manual - it tells you how to remove stuck tapes etc.If you need a service manual for this model, which is helpful for checking things/disasembly/assembly, you can obtain a free one from:- http://www.reptips.dk/Reptips/NV-FJ620.pdf

I'ts likely that the record sensor that pushes on the tab on the tape is bent or broken. Making the VCR think you are trying to record on to a protected tape.
Unfortunately, the VCR in question is discontinued, so it's unlikely that Panasonic will even still have a manual in print readily available. However, I did find an online manual. Go to the link below, and enter the "prove you're a person" numbers, and the link appears. The manual seems to be the actual manual and complete. You can always print it out if you would really like one in print.
You can download the complete instruction manual in PDF format by clicking this link.
You'll require Adobe PDF Reader installed on your computer to view the manual. If it is not already installed on your computer, download it free from: http://get.adobe.com/reader/
Hope this solves your problem. Thanks for using FixYa.
OK connect the AV Out Yellow, Red, White, OR SVHS, OR SCART, from the VCR, connect these leads color to color to the DVD's AV whatever, IN.. Press Play on VCR, and "Record" on CVD that should do it.
Most Panasonic VCR use a mechanisms with a letter. For example the NV-HS900 uses a K Deck. What you need to do is type the model number into google and search for which deck it uses. Then with luck you might also find the instructions for setting the deck up correctly. I got the K-Deck one free.
I beleave your sensor that tells the player weather a tape is in there or not needs replaced ~ It sounds like it doesent know the tape is not there aand will not shut down! (replace tape sensor)

looks like some kind of sensor within the mechanical part, its seems like the mechanism doesnt return fully to its original point giving you these kind of malfunctions, I suggest to take it
to an authorized dealer for a complete check up & tune up
