Hello Homegirl, I was about to throw my zune to the trash but I thought, what the hell let's open this piece of ****.
So I looked up for a video in youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJwLn75RQRM, this guy teaches you how to change your zune hard drive, it's preaty cool. So I opened my device and first I disconeccted and connected both cables (Battery and the other one I don't know what it is...), started up my device and walahh!! it worked. Don't forget to put the pieces back toghether...
I hope it works for you!

i would reinstall the whole zune software and make sure everything is freshly downloaded, and you computer should recongnize it, finally click on erase all content and your zune will reboot and be fine once more and work agian
please remember to save all your music before uninstalling the zune software
Ok the solution is so simple your goign to kick your self. what you do is take you zune cable plug it into any thign other than your computer say a Nintendo Wii or PlayStation 2 or 3 leave it for a few minutes then unplug it and try to restart it if it dosent restart while its pluged in. if it dosent restart then plug it back in and let it set over night some times the battery is so dead that the computer cant pick it up but make sure your wii or Xbox or what ever is turned on .
One last ditch effort: Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
And, yeah, as far as the international replacement - that is how all the manufacturers are - they are not willing to pay the cost to keep their customers. Also, they have no process in place for fulfilling such a request, even if they have offices in both countries (which most of them do). Sad, really.
Download and install the latest zune software from microsoft. Run the new zune software, plug your zune into the computer and it should prompt you to install the latest firmware automatically. This is all that is necessary with the majority of firmware problems.
I had the same problem (frozen after first time trying to charge.) I found the solution on another site. I just unplugged the device and let the battery drain completely, then plugged it back in (rear usb port) and voila, it works, that simple.
