Question about Toshiba DVD Recorder AND Series2 TiVo 120GB DVR

Leave dvr on or turn on/off

Have directv and heard its better to leave dvr on & just turn off receiver than to turn on/off throughout day. its supposed to avoid problems by always leaving on. is that true?

U can leave it on. as long as it has the power plugged to it the hard drive will remain running. it works just like a computer when a it goes on sleep mode

II just want to ask a question about a TIVO DVR.


You can buy a used DirecTV with Tivo. You probably had a Hughes SD-DVR40 or SD-DVR80 before. The used model needs to be transferable to your account (which means it can't be leased, it has to have no outstanding charges on the previous account, etc). And you have to buy a new DirecTV card.

R15 DVR locked in record


2 months ago my R15-500 stopped working. The "Record"(yellow) light was dim on the front of the DVR and a lightly audible clicking noise could be heard from inside the DVR. So I searched the internet and found this FIXYA site. I disassembled the DVR as instructed and removed the power board. Sure enough the Capacitors were bulging on top. I replaced all of the capacitors on the power supply output, I think 6 altogether. I reassembled the unit and it worked great.

My Directv DVR receiver will not stay on it is blinking yellow??


Unplug it from the power for about 30 minutes and then try again. If it still doesn't work I would call DirecTV and discuss getting it replaced.

Can Not Be Done. Dish and Directv use different encoding software.

Directv receiver not able to load up


unplug the satellite cables from the dvr and restart it. it may or may load. if it does u can watch pre-recorded programs that are still on the hard drive

no it wont sorry. once a card is activated in a receiver it is married to that reciever. only directv sends out new cards to replace damaged ones. If you buy a new receiver it will come with a new card that you will have to activate

Burning smell


unplug the receiver and call directv to send a new one. the dvr may have hard drive electrical issues that could lead to bigger problems

unplug all the cables except the video out and the power cord. if i loads and stays on after the 14 min. there is a cabling or dish issue. if it turns off the dvr is bad
