Carefully! Make sure there are no screws at the back which hold it down, then use a guitar pick or small rubber sleeved screwdriver to pry one corner of the cover up. The clips are usually VERY tight as the cover is installed once and never usually removed again, but they do give with a bit of force.

I hae a compaq 9010 laptop and the on off button has come unclipped from under the keyboard. anyone kow how to lift the keyboard up.

Above the Keyboard, and directly under the LCD screen is the Keyboard Cover. This cover contains the various LED lights, and Power On button.

1) ALL power to the laptop is removed. The AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.

2) Two Philips head screws are removed from the back of the laptop, which fasten the hinge cover portion of the Keyboard Cover to the laptop.

3) A thin flat-bladed screwdriver is used to gently pop the Keyboard Cover up.

On the Right and Left sides of the Keyboard Cover, and also the middle, (Side towards the Keyboard), a small flat-tipped screwdriver is used to gently pry the Keyboard Cover up.

Use care so as to not damage the plastics, nor the wireless antenna.

How do I take apart my compaq presario. I take all the screws out and I still cannot get the plastic to sepreate

There should be a panel usually right above the keyboard that covers the hinges and usually has the power button, wifi, sleep, etc. on it. this panel should pry off with a little help and expose a few more screws that hold the keyboard down and casing together. Hope this helps.

How do you remove the actuall keyboard on a compaq presario 1200 notebook computer, i have removed all screws and access doors on bottom end, along with the memory etc.

First remove the top plastic strip piece (where the power button is located) and then use a phillips screwdriver and unscrew the screws holding the keyboard in place. Gently pry it out and then remove the ribbon cable that connects the keyboard to the mainboard

Need to remove my keyboard on Compaq Presario C501nr.

Remove battery.  Notice 5 phillips head screws labeled M2.5X4.  Of the 5, 2 have arrows pointing to them.  These 2 screws hold down the cover plate above the top of the keyboard, the one that has the 5 buttons for (left to right) WiFi, Power, Vol down, Vol up, and Mute.  Carefully pry up the cover after the 2 previously mentioned screws are removed.  You will see 4 screws at the top of the keyboard.  Remove these screws and gently lift up and slide up the keyboard.  Once the tabs at the bottom of the keyboard are clear, look to where the ribbon cable from the keyboard attaches to the socket on the motherboard.  Gently slide the very small tabs on the socket outward.  They only move about 1/16".  The ribbon cable should be free and you should be able to remove the keyboard assembly completely.

You need to replace the keyboard. Here is a source:

The screws holding the keyboard are under a plastic trim strip that needs to be removed.
