    thanks !
there are three jumper pins on the board. the system powers up with the one of the two jumpers shorted. i am assuming that is pin 1 and 2. when i set it to pin2 and pin3 shorted the system will not power up. those are the only two combinations between the three pins. so i have left it in pos 1&2.

This manual for this board has the JP1 clear CMOS jumper shown reversed. I can't remember exactly what it was (maybe mis-labeled?), I think pin 1 is shown on top in the manual, but it is on the bottom on the board. Also, Panel one (power, reset, LED's, etc...) is upside down on the board compared to the manual. Hope this helps.

My bad. I have an older board version. It looks like the manual was corrected with version 5.

Is the cmos clear jumper in the wrong position? if it is it will drain the battery and mess up the clock, You may have to flash the eeprom with a newer version BIOS obtainable from the manufacturer, check their website on this to see if it is a known issue ( I have seen this on multiple other manufacturers main boards). If this isnt it it is possible you have a bad clock chip

For downloading the manual.

The solulion is, to renew the cmos battery on the mainboard.

The battery is a cr2032 watch type:

Press the lid to release the cmos battery, and insert the new the same way.
Restart the pc, and you probably get this message:F1 or F2 for setup, or press the delete button to enter the bios.
You have to setup the bios, like clock, date, and boot settings for your drive.
Look in the manual, for detailed setup configure.

Good luck

What is bios?what bios is cmos

BIOS =Basic Imput Output System. CMOS is the onboard chip that stores the info for the BIOS.

CMOS chips pass information to the BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) when the computer is turned on (called bootup). CMOS stores information such as boot order (the order the computer looks for information, such as A drive first, C drive second, and so on), real-time system clock, calendar settings, hardware passwords, hard drive configuration settings, and the installed memory (RAM). Essentially the CMOS chip stores data for the BIOS so that a computer can boot up properly.

Update for SiS 2615 Display Adapter to load windows XP pro

The PC Chips MB PCCHIPS SiS746FX M848A V5.0 462 motherboard does not have onboard video, correct? So if you can obtain the make and model of your video card, you can then find the Windows XP drivers online for download. Then you would be able to provide said drivers when the "system asks you to update SiS 2615 Display Adapter driver"

*Another quick fix would be to use a different VGA card, if you have one available?

*Now, I have never been prompted to update display driver before or during a windows installation or update. So that step I would require a little more detail on. I have only been prompted for mass storage drivers (as seen in screenshot).

My computer's bios doesn't save anything

Here's the manufacturer info link
http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/DG31PR/configs.htm

BIOS Loses Date and Time (or Changed Settings Not Saved)
A coin-cell battery (CR2032) powers the real-time clock and CMOS memory. When the voltage of the CMOS battery drops below a certain level, the BIOS Setup program settings stored in CMOS RAM (for example, the date and time) might not be accurate. If you find that date and time is incorrect or if you make BIOS setting changes but they are not saved, replace the battery with an equivalent one. Caution Risk of explosion if the battery is replaced with an incorrect type. Batteries should be recycled where possible. Disposal of used batteries must be in accordance with local environmental regulations.
To replace the battery, follow these steps:
  1. Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the computer. Disconnect the computer’s power cord from the AC power source (wall outlet or power adapter).
  2. Remove the computer cover.
  3. Locate the battery on the board. battery1.jpg
  4. With a medium flat-bladed screwdriver, gently pry the battery free from its connector. Note the orientation of the “+” and “-” on the battery.
  5. Install the new battery in the connector, orienting the “+” and “-” correctly.
  6. Replace the computer cover.

Hi,
Every PC motherboard has a battery. That battery serves two purposes: to feed the configuration memory (also called CMOS) and to feed the real time clock of the computer (the one that show the date and the time).
An indication it is time to change the motherboard battery is receiving one of the following error messages when you turn on your computer: CMOS CHECKSUM FAILURE, CMOS BATTERY STATE LOW, CMOS SYSTEM OPTIONS NOT SET and CMOS TIME AND DATE NOT SET. Another indicator of a low battery is a clock that, after being set, runs well while the computer is on, but shows the wrong time when the computer is turned on the following day (it is late).

Try clearing the bios/cmos using the jumper on the board, page 10 in you're manual. Than try booting. See if you're keyboard allows you to get into the bios/cmos. I'm guessing you tried another keyboard? You can also buy a PS2 - to -USB Y adapter. This is what one looks like.

If you bought an AGP graphics card lately you might have also received a single PS2 to USB adapter free. Like this one.

It's not uncommon for the the lights to function & yet the keyboard not function. A single pin within the PS2 on the keyboard could be bent or bad or not seating correctly in you're new board.
