Loud extension ringer used with Norstar Meridian phones will not ring. Any ideas why?

Purchased the extension loud ringer and have tried plugging in to several different phone outlets along with a phone jack "splitter". Nothing works. Is there something else we need to do to get this to work?

To clarify, this is an external ringer used in industrial shop environment, not a separate extension.

  • Anonymous Oct 15, 2012

Can anyone tell me if the phone itself needs to be programmed to allow an external ringer? Or is this something that must be set up with the phone company?

Maybe a bad splitter, you didn't mention make or model # of the ringer you purchased so its difficult to answer.Did they not come with instructions?

Most external loud ringers are analog and your phone is digital. You would also need a digital to analog converter and use an additional digital extension to make it work.

You can adjust the ringer of your Nortel phone by dialing Feature *6, then using the volume bar to adjust the ringer while the tone is playing, or dial Feature *80 to adjust it there.

NorStar Meridian M7310 unwanted auto-forward

Sounds like the one touch button for the basement set on the console is stuck down there by transfering any calls to that extension. Make sure that the button is pulled fully up (sometimes just the corner is stuck down).

3rd line - no ring tone on one of a 3 set phone system

Yes, as you noticed FEATURE *6 only changes the ring tone on the set...

You have to go into system programming to make this change...

-> First you need to know the extension on the set, you can find this by doing FEATURE *0 and press the Intercom button.
-> Get into programming and you'll see TERMINALS&SETS and enter
-> type in extension that is giving you problems
-> hit next till you see LINE ACCESS and enter
-> the you'll see LINE ASSIGNMENT and enter
-> type in the line 003
-> and press change to APPR&RING
-> hit next and RLS to back out of programming

Phone won't ring. The arrow will flash but no ring. Meridian 7310

you can try to plug it in at a set that does ring and make sure it wokrs there. The programming should not have changed with the phone but ... anything is possible. If it rings at the other location then it will be the programming for that extension. Also check that it is not in DND do not disturb

M7310 phone not ringing audibally

If the internal calls dont ring, then there is something with the extension. When a call is ringing the phone, press the UP VOLUME. Chances are that someone accidentally turned the ringer all the way down.

Let me know if that doesnt work.
