Have to tilt steering wheel to start

The electric part of the ignition switch for my '86 is under the dash at the base of the steering column, and it's actuated by a rod connecting it to the key lock. Sounds like either the rod's worn so it to longer engages the electric switch in all tilt positions, or it's a neutral switch problem. Rod wear is a high-mileage issue, but adjusting the switch (loosening bolts, sliding it microscopically back and retightening bolts, should improve it. If it's a neutral switch problem (automatic transmissions only) then the truck should start with tranny in neutral gear, regardless of tilt position. Problems there are adjusted out at the linkage adjustment under the hood at the firewall, where the linkage emerges. Good luck!

We hooked up the cb radio and the meter light lit up.... my buddy tiltted the radio back and it started to smoke, i took the cap off and the smoke was comming from under the echo board, we fixed one...

If there was a direct short to ground.....which it sounds like there would've blown the protecton diode. The protectio diode is located near the power plug on the inside of the radio (component side). It will be black with a white stripe at one end, It looks like a little can/cylinder with wires coming out of each end. Kinda like a resistor.....but smooth.
The problem lies HERE.....
If it did burn the diode, it will not look like that, It will be a crispy little black thing that falls apart when you touch it.
Just look around near the power plug for a burnt component. If you see one...well...thats probably it.
FYI: the diode will be directly between the pos and neg leads in the circuit near the plug.

One more thing. If the radio started smoking when you tilted it....that means that there is something metal rolling around in there loose. Thats the only reason it should've shorted like that.
Good luck!!

i am a tech at a ford dealership. it sounds like you have a short some wheres around your steering column that maybe what we call "backfeeding" to other systems. the area where the tilt is on the steering column is a good place to check. also remote starters can cause alot of havoc on a vehicle.

I just need to know how to remove the factory radio from a 2001 chevy tahoe

did this recently on a 2004 Tahoe. Yours is probably the same. Set the brake and put the shifter in low. Tilt the steering wheel all the way down, if it tilts. Grab the instrument panel bezel with your fingers/fingernails and pull straight out. There are spring loaded clips all around from the left end of the dash to just past the radio. Once it is free from all clips, tilt the top down toward the steering wheel to slip it out. Then you will see 3 screws holding the radio in. There are 2 connectors on the back, plus the antenna wire to pull out. Let me know if yours is different or if you have any questions.

I have a 2000 chevy tahoe that I need to unlock the radio

You can call the dealer with your VIN# and the serial# from the radio, but that means you have to pull the radio first. Not ******* your vehicle. First pull out your cup holder on the dash as you would to use it. Second, turn on your key and put the vehicle in first gear, all the way down. Tilt your wheel all the way down. Dash panel will pull out easily, no screws just clips. Pull firmly, but not too hard, straight out all the way around the panel. BE CAREFUL NOT TO BREAK THE HAZZARD SWITCH. VERY EXPENSIVE. Push the hazzard switch down and gently pull the panel over it. Disconnect any wire harnesses on the radio side so that you can tilt the dash panel away from the radio. The radio will also just unclip from the dash. On either side you will see clips on the radio that you need to push straight down and then just pull straignt out. There you go. Good luck.

95 Riviera gives a buzzing sound when I try to start it

I'm not sure of what you are saying but it sounds to me that can't start the car while the steering wheel is in one of the tilt positions but then it will start when in another position. If this is the case then it sounds to me that the starter engage wire in the steering column is being pressed into something and grounding out the signal when you try to start the car while in the bad tilt position. The reason it'll allow the car to start in the other position is that when the steering wheel is moved from the bad position it allows the pinched wire to be moved away from what ever it's being grounded off on. The buzzing sound could be the other stuff happening when the ACC part of the switch is engaged. You could try taking the column cover off and looking around at the wires that come off of the switch and inspecting them. You would be looking for a damaged wire, either it would have a flat spot or you would be able to see the bare wire through the sheething. If you find a bad spot on the wire then just take some electrical tape and wrap it around the wire three of four times. Then try to reroute the wireing so as to get it out of the way of the pinch point, zip ties are good for this part. Due to the nature of the problem that sounds like the bad spot on the wire will be around where the joints in the steering column are.

OUtboard motor tilt not working

There should be a hydraulic bypass valve screw on the tilt assembly. Usually a large slotted screw driver is needed to loosen the valve. The motor can now be lifted manually, but not with ease.
