Question about Canon PowerShot S45 Digital Camera

Canon s45 no image to lcd from lense

Hello,

My Canon s45 was working perfectly until it was dropped from a very very small heigh in a soft leather case with protection. The camera works in the sense that it can read and display the images from the SD card perfectly, the lense extends but you cannot see anything on the LCD when wanting to take a picture bar a white box in the middle that usually turns green once focussed (but now doesn't.) The screen is just black. The shutter clicks, takes the picture, but just a black LCD screen.

Any help would be appreciated

I have the same problem I went to the canon service department and they told me that its a common problem and the image sensor has to be change it will cost me 160.00 depending on the area where I'm getting it done so for me it's better to buy a new one.

Try power reset. Also, clean the lens with a piece of chamoise leather, which u can get from a good optician also. Or else, clean with a dry soft tissue paper, toilet paper would not be a bad option. :)

Google the word "lenspen". They have two models...one of them is small for small lenses like yours. It cleans the lens perfectly and lasts for years.

Have a brand new EOS 100D with Canon image

Have you actually cleaned the contacts or are you just looking at them and they "look" clean? Clean them with a cotton swab lightly dampened in rubbing alcohol.

My canon powershot s45 works fine , until i plug it into my computer. then it wont even power up . its not my ports or cords i checked them. i dont have the manual & i think that a setting was changed or...

When connected to the PC the cameras display will blank out, this is normal. If the cameras "Communication" setting is set to "Normal" you can only download images when the cameras drivers have been installed of the bundled CD. If you change it to "PTP" (Picture Transfer Protocol), you can connect it to any computer without installing drivers. Set the camera into playback mode, press the menu button and navigate into the menu with the tools(setup). You will find it there. Good Luck!

Soft digital images/ not sharp

Wow... Yes it can be fixed but only by a professional tech. You have either slightly shifter the reflector or damaged the sensor. There is also a possibility that you have loosened the auto focus as well. It may be just a simple adjustment. If it becomes too expensive of a fix I REALLY suggest an upgrade to a 40d. They are now affordable and there is a significant improvement in the models. You lenses are also compatible.

Lens won't in on camera and makes clicking sound.

When you dropped your camera, some dirt got on the outside of the lense or some mechanical part of the lense broke or dislocated. If some of the mechnical part of the lense is damaged, you need to open up the lense from the camera and inspect the parts. Look for loose parts, then clean it and put it back.
I had the same problem with my sony Cyber-shop, but it was not dropped. somehow one or more small piece of dirt got on the outside of the lense. Here is what I did and the problem was fixed for good.
While turning the camera off, I pressed on the lense (up and down motion) softly. After a few times, the lense retracted 95% of the normal retracted position. I then, pressed the lense a little harder in untill it was fully retracted. It has been working okay since then.

You should always keep the outside of the lense clean and do not drop it.

Good luck

The matrix is dead. Probably because of an intensive light got into the lense while the camera was in night mode. It's dead. Nothing can be done.

Canon PowerShot Dropped: Blank Screen

For Ravi, this definitely sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/11/canon-digital-cameras-showing-black.html
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=225&modelid=13390&keycode=2112&id=29819
Applicable cameras include:
A40, A60, A70, A75, A80, A85, A95, A300, A310, S1 IS, S60, S200, S230, S330, S400, S410, S500, SD100, SD110
By the way, don't tell Canon that you dropped the camera. Sounds like the CCD imager was about to go bad anyway, and the drop just accelerated this.
