How can I get my computer to recognize my CD-ROM drive?

Click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver

or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall

if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer
Close all open programs

Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

SYSTEM

CurrentControlSet

Control

Class

{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

Upper Filters

Lower Filters

Upper Filters.bak

Lower Filters.bak

If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer

Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone. or

you might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd restart your computer then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard or
you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall your DVD/CD then reinstall the driver for this device

hope this helps you

I have a HP Pavillion zv5000 model #zv5034 and it will not dectect my dedevice a Sansa Fuze mp3 player. what do I do? My opporating system is windows XP thank you

Suggestion 1:

Update Windows:
A lot of times, Windows updates will fix small problems like this. If you haven't updated your Windows OS in a while, it may help.

1. Click Start
2. Click All Programs
3. Select Windows Update

You will be taken to the Windows Updates site and it should be a simple process of updating and restarting.

After that is complete make sure you have the proper software installed that came with your Fuze and then attempt to plug in the Fuze.

Suggestion 2:

If that doesn't work, try updating your USB drivers.

Navigate to HP's Support site and search for available drivers for download. An updated driver might be available for USB. Follow the installation instructions, restart your machine and attempt to plug in the Fuze.

Suggestion 3:

If the Fuze is still not being recognized, find a different USB device, such as a USB printer or USB hard drive, plug it in and observe to find out if the computer will recognize it. If it does, it may mean that there is some sort of software conflict and the Fuze is not recognized as a known device.

When you plug it in, listen for the Windows sound that occurs when a new USB device has been plugged in. If you don't here it, the issue may be related to the USB port itself. Try each USB port on the computer and listen for the "new device" sound.

If you don't hear the sound in one, but you hear the sound on another, try using that one and see what happens.

I'm aware of the mass audience of people who have had annoying experiences with the Fuze and how difficult it can be to make it work, and I hope this isn't one of those cases, but if it is, I would attempt to get your money back and use it on a different MP3 player. The iPod series is excellent and becoming cheaper. The cheapest being the Shuffle at around $50. I use the 3rd Gen Nano and it hasn't skipped a beat for 2 years.

Hope this helps! Good luck.

HP Pavilion Slimline s7400n PC

Hmm...Hope this works out !

Step1: Device Manager
Right Click on 'MyComputer' and click on Properties.Click on 'Hardware' and then Click on 'Device Manager'.

For the Category 'DVD-CD-Roms', click the plus sign and then the branch expands down..whatever is the name of the drive there, right click the name and click on uninstall..(If the category
'DVD-CD-Roms' is not there at all, you'll have to remove the drive off the system and put it back again and then try)...

Step 2: Registry

Click on Start->Run(Xp) or Start->StartSearch(Vista) and then
type in Regedit and hit enter..
The registry editor will open up. Click the + sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, the branch will expand down..then click the + sign next to 'System' and then 'CurrentControlSet' and then 'Control' and then 'Class' and then click on the folder '4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318'....on the right side..find the enteries 'Upper Filters and Lower Filters' ...If they are found right click and delete them... and then restart your system. !!!!

Check now if the drive works !
If it doesnt then update the firmware of your cd-rom drive, If this still doesnt work..then iam afraid the drive is bad..(There is no need to Reinstall the O.S)

Note:Checking in BIOS & Device Manager for the hardware presence/detection of the drive is very important..If the drive is not getting detected in BIOS, then step 1 and 2 wont work...
Only Reseating the Drive might work!

Best Of Luck !
