Here are some things to try. I would remove the bluetooth adapter. Is it built in? If so, you will not be able to do this. If it is an adapter take it out and try putting it back in. Did you install new software? Do you have anti-virus? I would recommend that you do a system restore to the point of when it happened. The system restore will restore the settings previous to the incident. Now the next thing is to do a right click of the system and go into properties. Depending if you have Vista or XP the Device Manager will be in different spots. Look in the Device Manager and uninstall the BlueTooth. Reinstall the device. If the BlueTooth is built in then you will probably have to contact tech support at Gateway.

If your blue tooth is Usb type try to remove and replug it again, then you will observed that there is a blue tooth icon appear to the lower right corner of your computer, it means your connected or check it out to MY computer, look for the blue tooth icon. Right click the icon then choose what connection you want.
Most blue tooth device manufactures use the power button to set your device to discovery mode, first you must turn the power to on for your blue tooth from your phone menu, then most manufactures use the power button to put the blue toooth device into discovery mode,by holding the power button down when you turn your device on holding it for 6 to 10 seconds, usually a solid light appears on your blue tooth device,it is now in discovery mode,on your phone menu there should be an add new or search devices, once you've clicked that it should discover your blue tooth device, then you will need a pin or pairing code,Most manufactures use a factory 4 digit pin pairing code the y are as follows 0000,1234,1111,or 9999, if you have done the steps correctly the menu will say connect, press conect and you should be connected..i hope this helps
if you are worried about the icons that are sown in the tray system ( lower right in the task bar ) those are showing the other connections that are not working at the time ...for example the LAN cable conection ...and the blue tooth ..those will appear not connected if you have no cable on the Lan card or blue tooth device connection ...even if you are connected via wireless those will appear unless you choose to unchecked the show in tray ... if you are asking about the connection you have made wireless and it doesnt work ...you probably have a driver problem ..just reinstall the driver for the wireless card if you know that the connection should work ...if you have acces on the net wireless those icons that are x-ed on the right on the task bar are for the other connection methods ..so do not worry ..
