While connected via HDMI cable to a JVC flat screen tv, will display Philips logo & blue screen and then goes black. How do I get this darned thing to work? I have tried hitting the home key on the remote, but nothing will display
SOURCE: no display
Press the DVD button on the Philips remote. Make sure the yellow part of the RCA cable is plugged into Output/CVBS/Out on the back of the Philips, and that it is plugged into a yellow input of your TV. Change your TV channel to Av1, av2, video 1, video 2, aux, aux 2, or whatever the correct video channel is on your TV. Then press setup - you will get your picture.
In order for the coax connection to work on Ch. 3 of your TV, you will have to get an additional piece of equipment - an RF modulator. It's better just to stick with the RCA red, yellow, white cables.

If you haven't already stumbled across the fix: I just had the exact same problem after about eights months of casual use. Unplugging the DVD player for about 15 minutes and then plugging it back in "solved" the problem. Until next time it happens, anyway.

Unplug-replug. I don't know why this works, or how long your dvd player has left in it, but it does work. GL!
SOURCE: No Picture on HDMI using Philips DVP5992.
You can try out by connecting the CVBS (Yello) out from player to TV and connect HDMI out from Player to TV. Goto CVBS input on Sony TV. Select set up and you should get the HDMI Video options availble. Try to change the resulution and check for Video on HDMI source.
Which disc you were playing PAL or NTSC? PAL should work for Europe.
