Question about Mitsubishi WD-52525 52" Rear Projection HDTV

TV made popping sound and then shut off

I have a Mitsubishi DLP TV, and while we were watching it, it suddenly made a loud popping sound and then shut off. When I went to turn it back on, it made weird crunching like sounds. I don't know anything about these kind of TV's so I'm searching around trying to see if I can find a solution.

You need to replace the DLP bulb. It's located behind the left speaker, and is relatively easy to replace. But...it costs about $200, and has to come for Mitsubishi. On the bright side, if you use a credit card to order it, they usually overnight it, reducing your down time. If you bought an extended warranty, this is covered in that. Also, the extended warranty will provide you ONE bulb per year. I've had my WD-52525 for three and a half years now, and have replace the bulb twice, I'll probably be ordering one one here shortly, since it's coming on to about a year since the last one has blown.

Our first one went very suddenly, two days before the BCS championship game in 2006, and they got us the bulb for game day. Our second we replaced after a blinking orange warning light displayed. Look these up in your owners manual, it describes all common malfunctions in the troubleshooting section.

You need to look in your owners manual for the telephone number and order a new bulb. It should cost about $200, but they will ship it overnight and minimize your downtime.

I've replaced 2 in my WD-52525 in the last 3 years, the first one went like yours did, very suddenly, with an audible POP!! The second one was preceded by an orange warning light, which the book says is a warning that the bulb has about 20 hours left on it.

To replace the bulb, UNPLUG THE TV, remove the left speaker screen, with a philips screw driver unscrew the bulb, pull it out by the handle, then replace it with the same type, in reverse order. This is a very easy replacement that does NOT need to be done by a service technician to complete.

SOURCE: My DLP TV made a loud popping sound then went off

first. unplug the set for 5 minutes and see if it will reboot. if it does not the you have 2 problems, the chassis is also bad. next open the lamp door cover, it is behind the speaker grill, and behind the lamp door.
take out the lamp and see if it has broken on the inside if it has it needs to be replaced. mits will send you one i believe it is about 100.00 the number is 915P020010. if the lamp looks ok then the color wheel has probably fallen apart.if this is the case the light engine need to be repaired. check out www.tv-techs.com

Try cleaning the little fans that keep the bulb cool, the temp sensor will shut it off so not to damage the bulb , the winning sound may be the fan going bad or not working like it should.

I get sound but no picture then the tv shuts off after 5min. It is a Mitsubishi wd-73837

Popping noises are not a good sign; I suspect the sound came from the catastrophic death of an electrolytic capacitor or worse, the death a a power semiconductor.
Open the lower cabinet and using a good light, look for a smaller, separate board with fairly large parts on it; some cylindrical in shape, others block-like that may have copper wire showing.
If, as common, this board is plugged with connectors into other parts of the system, you may be able to swap the failed board out for a replacement bought from a Mitsubishi service center.Expect to pay $100-$150 US if the set is no longer under warranty.

No display or sound on Mitsubishi WD-52725

This is a DLP They have issues with the color wheel, the winding sound could be from this color wheel. If it stops spinning it will cause the tv to shut down. DLP is a mechanical display process. If you are handy and understand electronics you could replace this yourself. If not i would let a tech handle it.

HEARD LOUD POP NOISE DLP TV DOES NOT WORK

Following up on my Feb 7 post. My new lamp arrived, and I replaced it and it works great. The old lamp had many shards of glass come out of it. It was tore up. I saved some money buy purchasing just the lamp and not the cartridge. It's a little bit more work to take apart, but saves money. Mitsubishi wanted $289 for the lamp replacement kit. I got a lamp for $114. TV is working just fine now!
