No, this set does not have a digital tuner. The TV must be an HDTV in order to have a digital tuner built in.

Why am I having trouble getting a signal with local air stations?

How "local" is local?

Are you using an out door antenna? Digital signals are weak and fragile. Leaves on a tree between your antenna and transmitter can cause hassles. They are not brutal like the older analog signals of yore.

Now if you have a good outdoor antenna and local stations and you still have hassles, then the problem lies with the tuner section of your set. With analog signals, the weaker the signal the more noise in your picture. Digital does not work that way. It either works fine or you get nada. No snow but no in between reception either.

Does this product have a built in digital to analog converter?

This tv incorperates a full digital PLL tuner. It does not need a digital to analog coverter since analog signals is no longer used. All tv stations now broadcast with digital signal. It will receive local broadcast stations just connect a goood quality antenna to the tv. You will need to do a scan and the tv will store all of your local broadcasting stations within range. An outdoor antenna works best for digital signals.

We want to hook our small Magnavox tv to a rabbit ear antennae to get only local stations. How to do this?

Unless this a new TV with ATSC (digital) tuning built in, you will need a digital adapter for off-the-air reception. Older TV sets have analog tuners, and analog broadcasting ended in June 2009. Wal-Mart and Radio Shack carry the adapters, as do other retailers. Your antenna connects to the adapter, and the adapter sends the converted signal to the TV on channel 3 or 4.

With digital broadcasting, a strong signal is necessary. Unlike the analog days, when a weak signal just meant a fuzzy picture, a weak digital signal will cause pixellation (blockiness) or freezing of the picture, or may not even be detected by the tuner. Depending on how far you are from the station's transmitter, you may find that rabbit-ears may not work too well. You may need an amplified antenna or even one outside to get best performance.

Hi, I live in a flat in London with a shared rooftop aerial (no idea of spec). I have a Sony KDL-46X2000. The built-in freeview tuner doesn't seem to recieve any HD channels. Is the built-in tuner the...

Make sure you have a good connection from antenna to TV. Check antenna and cable and cable connection to TV. Select DIGITAL button on TV remote when wanting HD channels. Remember HD channels are always digital. Also, any given TV station may not be broadcasting in HD at a given time. They can broadcast in digital but in standard definition sometimes. Your TV has a built-in DVB-T tuner. Try executing a channel scan to pick up all available channels. On-screen menus go to Digital Setup, then Digital Tuning, you can auto-tune or manual tune channels. The TV should take a few min. to scan thru available channels and store the channels its finds. Check with anyone in your area to see if they get HD channels (it is possible to be outside of the range of some TV stations) Your TV is a 2006 model and should still be compatible with local digital TV broadcasts but keep in mind digital signals could change in the near future (DVB-T2) and you may need a tuner/converter box to make the TV compatible.

Im trying to hook my standard antenna up to my jvc av 56p585. i dont have manual. and i cant get any channels. what do i need to put my tv on to get my basic local channels

This JVC TV has an NTSC (analog) tuner. So it can only receive some of the few remaining low power tv stations that are still using analog transmitters. Depending on your location, you may not have any of these stations within the range of the antenna.

You need an digital-to-analog tuner to get additional channels. Use tvfool.com or antennaweb.org to check for stations in your area and the appropriate direction to point that antenna. (You may need an amplifier since digital stations are either sufficient signal for the tuner to use or you get "no signal".)

Please note that the d-t-a tuners that were available with the government coupon cards only handles standard definition signals (480i). The HD tuner digital to analog converters are available at some online sites but cost more.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(you can use a tuner in your computer (USB or PCI card), but you will need a converter unless your video card can put out a signal other than RGB. The HDMI port on the TV will not interface directly with a computer.)

I have a Hitachi 32CX38B, does it have a digital tuner?

To answer your direct question, yes it has a digital tuner. To answer your real question, NO it WILL NOT receive the new ATSC (digital) broadcast stations. The tuner itself is a digital one but works only for analog signals. The changeover in February will change the broadcast signals to a new digital format that will require a converter for your set to continue to function. Please note that the converter is only required if you receive your signal from rabbit ears or a rooftop antenna. If connected to cable or satelite, no change will be seen and no converter is needed.

Over air reception = need converter
Cable or satelite = no converter

Digital or not

Sory to say that this set DOES NOT have the digital tuner required for over-air digital broadcasts. IT does have a digital tuner but only for cable and analog over-air stations. You would only be effected by the chagneover if you uise rabbit ears or a rooftop antenna. If you have cable or satelite or any other subscription TV service, you will not be effected.

I have an LG 42" 42PX4DV Plasma, keeps resetting itself.

Do you use a regular antenna, or cable/satelits tuner?

I use only satelite tuner, and had the same problem on a differnt TV. I solved it by connecting a regular antenna (actually just a piece of cable) and go through the search and store routine once. Then the TV remembered that it was configured. Before that it thought it was "fresh out of the box" every time.
