Sony Vaio Laptop boots but no display except mouse pointer

As booting up I get the VAIO startup screen and can press F1 or F8 and see those functions. The Windows XP Professional screen comes up but when it gets to the login screen it is blank except the mouse pointer (which I can move around but can't seem to get it to execute anything.

When pressing F8, I tried to run in safemode. The safemode indicators come up in each of the four corners of the monitor, but not desktop or login screen as stated above. Just the mouse pointer once again

1. Try to Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and if it can comes out
2. Click on File
3. Run Task
4. Explorer

If this does not work then You need to Format & Reinstall the Windows. This is caused by virus/Malwares

If the Safemode are shown at the corner of the screen you will be able to open Task manager and run explorer!

It could be the hard drive going bad but it also could be a virus. I would formatt & do a clean OS install.

I would load your recovery discs, that will fix it. The warranty does not cover software, only hardware that fails like display, motherboard, hard drive etc.

Sony vaio vgn-fj270 bios wont boot, just display [Be-$]Be-$

try to turn off the laptop. Remove cables and battery then press and hold the power button for 8 secs. Then reinsert the cables and battery on the laptop. Turn on the laptop. Check if the BIOS screen appears. If it is still wont boot to windows, try to restart the pc and repeatedly press F8 to Boot to safe mode. If unsuccessful, this might be a problem with the memory of your laptop. If you cannot tear down the laptop, consult a technician to tear it down and reseat the memory .. or better call your manufacturer to repair it...

Computer displays black screen with blinking cursor

Its seems its not booting correctly. Just Insert Windows CD and fix the windows. Another solution is to press (I think) F1 or F11 or F12 (depending on the model) when booting the machine. It will take you to recovery mode. Use it to restore the boot section ONLY.

You will have to F8 during boot up and run a system restore I am assuming you are running vista...in the F8 boot screen there is a repair vista.. or something along those lines... The problem is a bad update that needs to be re done most likely Sp1
