Most unlikely. The pilot lamp will also extinguish. Better close the gas knob on the burner and relight the pilot when the supply is restored. usually you can see the pilot light lit from the bottom of the range when you open the oven door. and the burner suface is warm-hot where the pilot is located below it.
Hello Lynne, To relight the pilots, start by removing the floor of the oven, then remove the small access panel below the doors. On the main oven burner will be a small pilot burner that probably looks something like this on the gas valve behind that small panel under the doors will be a red button, push that red button and hold it in while lighting that pilot burner...continue tohold that red button for 30 seconds, release it and the pilot should be lit. Good luck,GENE
On the main bake burner is going to be a small pilot burner, got to lift off the oven floor to get to it. It is going to look something like this picture and is attached usually to the side of the main burner. To light the pilot, push that red button light the small pilot burner..hold in the red button for about 20 seconds..release the red button..pilot should be on..if goes off the thermocoupler is going to be in need of replacement
The main burner valve is the oven valve. The pilot will be next to the burner and you either have to insert a long shiskabob stick ( lit) into the hole or lift up on the bottom of the oven (inside) and you will see the pilot.
You might need a new thermocouple. The thermocouple tells the oven that the pilot is lit and that it is ok to let gas into the oven. It is the metal rod that is connected to the pilot. They are fairly cheap and easy to install.
under each (the) oven behind a panel, is a red button it may be a different color from time. this has to be pushed and held while the pilot light under the oven floor is lit with a match. it has to be held to allow enough heat to activate the thermocouple, which will keep the pilot on. if this does not work there may be an additional problem
Most ovens, unless they have an electric igniter (does it go tick tick tick when plugged in and turned on? If so, it has an electic ignition.) have a pilot light. In order to keep gas from flowing out, and to prevent a possible explosion when the pilot light has gotten put out, they have an electric thermocouple on them that shuts off the gas when it gets cold. Plug the cord back in, and relight your pilot light by holding the lighter (I recommend a fireplace match or bbq lighter, not a cigarette lighter to prevent singed knuckle hairs!) over the thermocouple for a couple of minutes.
I would take out the pilot and clean it up and see what happens, also look behind the unit and see if theres a gas regulator on the gas line,if so you will see a nut on it take it off with a pair of pliers and clean as well.that valve is actually the saftey valve, when the pilot lights the flame impinges on the thermocouple and that sends a millivolt back to that valve in order to open.if none of these resolve your problem i would replace the thermocouple first as this is a cheap part and easy to put on.if you need a part # i can give it to you.let me know.
