Question about Maxtor DiamondMax D540X (4D060H3) 60 GB Hard Drive
I have a Maxtor D540X 40 GB drive that I am taking from one PC and adding to another. I have a floppy disk, a hard disk, and a CD drive in the new PC already. I have a free connection point on the ribbon cable coming from the CD drive. I plugged the drive in and then connected to the P8 power cable. The computer didn't recognize the drive. So I tried the P6 power connection. The computer still doesn't recognize the drive. I haven't added a hard drive to a PC in about a decade. Are there drivers I need? Setting in the BIOS?
You need to set the little jumpers at the rear of the hard drive and the cd rom drive. Set the hard drive as Master and the cd rom as Slave. Both devices should then be recognized.
