You will need the converter box if you do not have cable or satellite

I have a Sylvanis VCR/DVDcombo and a Standard TV.

The converter box receives hte digital signals and converts them into either channel 3 or 4, or into direct video (red, white, yel). The output of the converter box must go into the VCR input for recording to work. Before the conversion, the tuner of hte VCR would receive the RF signal the same as the TV. The tuner inside the VCR is an analog tuner not digital, so it needs the conversion too. Most converters will provide both the A/V signal (R/Wh/Y) and RF (coax connector).

Hope this helps,
Dan

Do I have a digital tuner?

Auto programm your set. Press 04 on the remote. If you have an HD set the channels 4-1 or 4-2 will apear on screen. if they don't you need a converter box. Most sets have HD some where on the front of the set to advertise they are HD.

About Sylvania TV

Hi malumbender,
Your tv dosn't have a digital tuner, in order to recieve OTA (over the air) digital signals you will need a Digital Converter Box.
Here is a link to a government website for coupons for the box. The coupons are for $40 off the purchase price of the box. There is a waiting list but they will come available as other coupons expire.
https://www.dtv2009.gov/

here is another site for antenna and channel line up.

I hope this helps and please rate this solution, please keep in mind that a "Thanks For Trying" rating is negative.

Do I have digital tuner?

No, this set does not have a digital tuner. The TV must be an HDTV in order to have a digital tuner built in.

Digital TV??

Your set does not have the correct tuner in it. However, the broadcast change only effects those that use an external antenna for reception. If you are using cable, satelite or any other service for TV, you do not need the converter.

TV Converter Box

Yes, you will need one if you watch any TV from an antenna. If you use satelite or cable to get your local TV stations, then you are good.

SYLVANIA 6620LG TV - DTV??

The ;quick answer is YES, you will need a converter box to receive digital broadcasts. This set has only an analog tuner built-in. That is why it is HDTV "ready" (ready for you to add a tuner).

As for HDTV vs EDTV it is a matter of resolution. Your set is capable of EDTV resolution, which is better than SDTV (standard definition TV) but not quite as good as HDTV. With a digital tuner you will be able to view all digital programming, even HD, and it will look excellent, though not quite as sharp as a set with higher definition.

DTV????????????????????????

From the side of the carton in which it came:
CONSUMER ALERT: This television receiver has only an analog broadcast tuner and will require a converter box after February 17, 2009 to receive over-the-air broadcasts with an antenna because of the U.S.'s transition to digital broadcasting. Analog-only TVs should continue to work as before with cable and satellite TV services, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players, and similar products. For more information, call the Federal Communications Commission at 1-888-225-5322 (TTY: 1-888-835-5322), or visit the commission’s digital-television Web site at: www.dtv.gov.
The only other thing I could add to this, is that the Post Office in 2009 will get the task of handing out $40.00 coupons to to anyone wishing to purchase a converter.
