SCREEN IS ALL RED WITH CURVED LINES OF DARKER RED AND POWER INDICATOR LIGHT IS FLASHING

  • JSMaxwell Jan 04, 2009

    Hello.

I have used this to successfully get my my green lines to go away. I am now faced with two remaining issues...

1.)My TV will occasionally (though not as often as before the adjustment) flash green, then turn off and go to standby mode. Do I need to do more adjusting on the green control?

2.)Since I turned down the green, my reds and blues appear almost florescent. Do I need to adjust them down as well to match? Any tips on setting the colors correctly would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure about your description of turning down the user control before setting the tubes.

    Thanks.

In side the front grille cover there is a smaller black wooden cover.after removing the grille 2 small screws bottom right and left corners under the caps, remove caps and you will see the screws 1/4 inch driver for these, you will see the cover (wooden) with more screws remove . now about dead centre you will see a little epoxy black box with 6 knobs sticking out from it. don't adjust the top row as these are your focus look clsely at the markings on the box at each knob they say r,g,b 1 for each color, adjust the 1 that matches the color you have too much of red knob for red color etc.
bak the correct 1 counter clockwise untill the lines go away, do this in a darkened room so you can see if there are faint lines still adjust untill they disapear all together the screen will appear in black and white if the user color control is turned all the way down
as it should be for this adjustment when done you can turn the color back to normal. if you have turned this control down too much the tube won't be biased properly and the l.e.d. on tnhe front of the set will blink telling you that it isn't biased properly, readjust untill this doesn't happen amking sure the picture is in black and white (color off) not green and white not blue and white, you get the picture. this is a common problem with these older units.

It sounds like the focus pack needs to be replaced (p/n 122392535) and re-adjusted. The re-adjusting could be the tricky part if you haven't done these before.

Sony KP-51WS500 tv went red screen on me it has 4 blue lines going across also has blinks 6 times.. what do you think this might be..

Off hand I would con dim the Red and Blue CRT"s. If you were to replace two of them I would also do the Green CRT as well. The cost of just doing two of them is way too expensive in my opinion and you would be better served to replace the set instead of investing the amount of money needed in a 6-8 yr. old set.
Hope this helps,

Why my screen turning red after minute of use

If the screen looks like the one in the link I posted, then you might want to try fixing it with what is suggested on the site. Keep in mind that this is a band aid fix which compensates for weakening components, however it "should" buy you some time. Don't do these adjustments if this is not the same problem you are having. If the TV shuts itself down, check to see if the blinking code is the same as the one in the web site.

I have a sony kp-51ws500 that the red is bowed across the screen.

If you are referring to the convergence ICs (STKxxx), then look in the area for fuses and/or low valued resistors that may be open.

Let me know what you find.
