The steady blinking light means there is no specific code. Sony authorized repair said the double-side board (the one lying flat/horizontal just to the right of the vertical power supply board which has the fuses) has a burnt transistor (the one with the sizable heat sink on it, at the back left corner when looking at the board from the rear of the TV). It is blowing the (non-power supply) fuse.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, to address your concern and your query:

  • visually inspect the defective fuse;
  • if the burned out fuse is clear with just the fine wire inside cut, then it would be safe to replace the fuse;
  • if there are burnt marks, black particles inside coating the glass tube, then that is indicative that there is a hardware fault that caused the fuse to blow. In this case, it would not be safe to simply replace the fuse;
  • if the fuse is relatively near the AC?power cord, then probable fault would be in the power supply section;
  • if the fuse is after the power supply, then it would be any of the other circuitry that is at fault. primary suspects would be the big loads like the HOT (horizontal output transistor).
  • fuses are readily available from most electronic stores, hobby shops, audio/video stores and even in some computer stores. Even your local hardware store could have some in stock.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy New Year.

  1. Turn off the television. IMPORTANT: For a projection television that uses an internal lamp, wait 5 minutes after turning off the television to allow the lamp to cool before continuing with the following steps.
  2. Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
  3. Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet. NOTE: If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.
  5. Turn on the television.
If the issue is still unresolved after following all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required. Please note the number of times the STANDBY light flashes and relay that information to the service center.

Usually, yes. A bulb that has audibly 'popped' will be apparently bad if you pull it out of the TV (shattered). Other times this is a lamp ballast board.
