Look in the back of the freezer, there will probably be a metal panel with a plastic vent on top.

Look through the vents in the metal panel, and you should see the shiny metal fins of the evaporator. If the fins or the vents are plugged with frost, that is your problem. The freezer will stay cold because a small amount of cold air will be forced through the frost but that will not be enough to make it up to the refrigerator portion. You can defrost the unit by removing the metal panel and allowing the frost to melt. Careful use of a hairdryer can speed up this process. This will likely be a temporary fix. The root cause of excessive frost can be caused by a bad door seal or a defective defrost circuit.

First check that the door seal is good by closing the door on a dollar bill at several points around the door, both on the freezer and refidgerator door. If you can pull the bill out with no resistance, the door is not making a good seal. Inspect the seal and make sure there isn't anything stopping the door from closing such as food, or a shelf not pushed in all the way.

If the door seal is good, the defrost system is likely defective. The defrost system has three main parts, the defrost heater, thermostat, and timer. If either one of the parts fails, the freezer will plug up with frost every few weeks. If you can troubleshoot this by manually starting the defrost cycle. Let me know if you would like this procedure.

My RJ 523V-R refrigerator has worked perfectly for 8 years, but suddenly stopped cooling the fridge properly while the freezer seems ok. how can I fix this?

Often times their is a fan from the freezer section to the refrigerator section, of some brands of boxes. If the fan goes out, the refrigerator sections no longer cools.

I have an Amana Model ARB2214CB Refrigerator with the bottom freezer. The unit runs fine but the last three months for about a week it stops cooling and the freezer stops freezing. You can hear the fan...

That sounds like a defective=> 67001036 Defrost Timer
slowing down and sticking in it's defrost position on the timer cam. The defrost timer can be found inside the fresh food section behind the controls. See=> ARB2214CB Controls location #12 in the photo HERE Questions? Thanks John Tripp Appliance 911

Freezer is working fine. Fridge side is not cooling entire side. There is ice behind bottom drawer but top of fridge is not cool.

Hi there Sounds like you could be short of refrigerant but there is a few things you can check before you call the tech out. Firstly you need to ascertain if the defrost cycle is working This is a device that has a dial on it usually located under the fridge Turn the knob and see if it cuts out if it doesn't then the defrost timer is the issue also go down to your local electrical goods supplier and buy your self a digital thermometer which you can check the temperature on the I freezer section Get back to me with a temperature for both upper section and lower section

Could be but before that check if settings are working. Set the freezer settings to coolest and see if cools. If ok, set to desired temp.

This happened on my side-by-side. There is a damper at the inside top of the refrigerator compartment that was failing to open to allow cold air in. I took the cover off and propped open the damper while I ordered the part and waited for it to arrive. Problem solved and hope to keep it running another few years.

The refrigerator portion of my Amana ARB2217CW stopped cooling (the fan is still running), but the freezer drawer portion still works fine. What can

most likely you have a bad damper,go here to see it
http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Damper/67003410/1025326
all that happens is the evaporator coil in the freezer gets cold, the evap fan blows the cold air to the fridge section and it goes through the damper, when it gets cold enough in the fridge section the thermostat on the damper closes the damper door, your damper broke in the closed position, this is as long as the door wasn't left open or anything like that,if it was the air ducts could have froze up but most likely it will be the damper.go here and it will show you where it is up near the light in the back and it's part number 18.hope this helps

Fridge not cooling... Freezer is fine

Its defrost problem, the freezer should cool, then freeze, then defrost cycle should start. In your case freezer is cooling, then freezing, but its not defrosting. That's why fridge section is not cooling.-------
