The best place to download drivers is always the manufacturer's website. The HP Vista drivers for this printer are found here :)

    Happy New Year.

Okay, it's not too difficult, you just have to do things in the right order to get the printer installed.

First, make sure the printer is disconnected when you start the machine up, otherwise it will try to load the drivers before you have installed them. The HP installer program will tell you when to connect the USB cable for the printer.

Second, download the software. Using the link provided in my first post, select the full featured driver as you did. You will get a box with three options: Run, Save or Cancel. Since it is such a large download I suggest you save it to you hard drive in the event it is needed later (don't worry, your machine has plenty of hard drive space to store things, and keeping a copy of the installer will not affect the speed or performance of your machine, it just sits on the hard drive until you run it). Select the Save option. Now you have to tell it where you want the file to be stored. The file menu box that pops up should default to your Documents folder, which is fine. The name field for the file will already be filled in. Just take note of the location and file name where the installer is being saved. Click OK and the installer will begin to download. Depending on your internet connection it will take a while for the whole package to download (if you are on dialup you should download the installer on a different machine with high speed DSL or cable instead, then transfer the file using a CD or memory stick). Once the download is complete it will verify and then give you a box to close the download. Do not run it from this final box, as you are using Vista and need elevated permissions.

Third, navigate to the location where the installer is saved. Usually this means going to the Start Button and selecting the Documents folder. You should see the file by the name used in step two. Since you are using Vista, right click on the file and select Run As Administrator to be sure you have the correct permissions to complete the installation. The User Control Management box might come up and you will have to click to Allow the program to run. Once the installer starts, it is pretty much self explanatory, just take the default options suggested by clicking OK or Continue wherever it is appropriate. Personally I do not install the 'extras' nor do I register or set for automatic updates.

Keep an eye out for the screen that will direct you to connect the printer. With the printer power ON insert the USB cable at that time and the installer will automatically sense the printer and begin to install the correct drivers. Then just sit back and watch the show or go get a cup of coffee. HP and Lexmark printers take a while to install because they include a number of support programs like the HP Director. It might take 15-20 minutes depending on the speed of your machine (dv6000 is usually pretty quick but it is relative to the amount of memory installed, as Vista is memory intensive).

The installer will tell you when the installation is complete and then guide you though the test page and alignment process. Your Photosmart should be set as the default printer by the installer, so once the process is complete you should not have to do anything else to use the printer. When you go to print from an application, the print box that comes up will have the C6380 selected and you just press the Print or OK button (depends on the application).

Post a comment when you are done to let me know if the installation was successful.

Issue could be due to missing or corrupt drivers. If you are using Windows XP, download and install the driver from below URL:

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33544.exe

If you are using Vista, then download the drivers from below URL:

If you are using a Windows Vista operating system, this is what you can do:

try to download belarc advisor software. Run this in your vista OS and send it to me so I can check your hardware specs. This is the only way to avoid problems in the future or before you start the formatting.
