1 Answer

P25-s609 display Dear Sir, When I turned on Toshiba Satellite P25-S609, the display is black. I cannot see anything on the display. I tried to press Fn+F5 to connect external monitor. The external monitor shows no signal. Do you know what could be the reasons? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Dear Honest1abe,

    Thanks for the tips.

When I turn it on, power and AC connection lights are on. But there is no beep.

I removed DVD, battery, hard drive and reseated memory, then connect laptop with power, the display is still black.

Do you think there may be the problem for display? Any help would be appreciated.

    Dear Sir,

    Thanks for your additional comments.

It looks system try to boot when I turned on the power. Then it stops wihtout beeps and nothing is display on the monitor.

As you mentioned, it sounds like motherboard problem;(

The used motherboard cost around $330.00 on ebay....

Again, thanks for your time and help.

    Dear Sir,

I'd like to clarify my tryout. Because of my hard disk is crash, I use Dell laptop hard drive (same spec.) to boot P25-S609. As I mentioned, system try to start, then it's stopped without beep. So I am not able to see anything from display or external monitor. I am thinking about if I should buy new hard drive. Since I am not able to see anything on the display, I am not able to use recovery CD anyway. So I dropped buying new hard drive.

Thanks for your help and time.

    Dear Steve,

The display was black before hard drive failed. I removed hard drive and boot the system, it's black. Then I replaced Dell hard drive and boot the system again, it's still black. So I post it here and look for help.

    Really appreciate your help!

When you say you turn it on, do any of the lights on the laptop light up? Does it make any beeps?

Have you done anything to your laptop or has anything happened that you think might have caused this?

Start off by simplifying your setup as much as possible to eliminate any outside influences.

Remove anything plugged into the laptop. Then unplug power and remove the battery. With battery out and power disconnected, hold down the power switch 15 seconds (this can clear out a corrupt BIOS).

Reconnect only AC power and try to power up. Verify your AC power has a power light lit up and all connections are snug.

If no go, try only with the battery and no AC.

Still no go, remove battery and any removable drive (CD, DVD, etc.). Connect AC power and retry boot.

If you feel comfortable removing the hard drive, remove it and retry boot.

If all drives are out, all external and internal devices removed and still no display, try removing the memory and putting it back in (reseating it).

Let me know if that helps or if you need further help.

Does anything on the laptop light up or make sounds like it is booting? If so, try connecting an external monitor and if the laptop display is the only problem, you should see something on the monitor.

If you never get anything from laptop or external monitor, it sounds like the motherboard may be bad.

I am assuming it is out of warranty. Replacing a laptop motherboard can be daunting for the novice. There are places that may be able to repair or replace the mother board for less than a comparable used laptop. That might be your best option if the laptop is simply not powering up.

One other thing to try; take out the memory and leave it out. Try powering on to see if you get any beeps. Most laptops are designed to give you an indication of power even with the memory out. Might be bad RAM, but I think that is a low probability.

If you are thinking of getting a new laptop, a competent computer shop should be able to retrieve the data from your hard drive.

Once that is done, have them format it for you as well, then put it back in the laptop and sell it as is on E-bay. I'd sell it for about $200 if I were you. Parts alone should be worth at least that much.

I'd still check around for a shop that specializes in laptops. Look for one that offers a free diagnostic. You never know, they may say they can fix it for less than the cost of the motherboard.

You may call me Steve if you like.

Are you saying the computer had a display but the hard drive failed? Then you replaced the hard drive with another drive and the screen failed to display anything?

That information is vital to trouble shooting and I wish you had said that at the very beginning.

What probably happened is that when you inserted the replacement drive, you bent some of the connection pins inside and they are shorting out the system.

I strongly advise you take your laptop to a reputable repair shop to see if they can straighten the pins and bring your laptop back to life. Even if it costs up to $200, it would be worth it.

Hi There,

Your best bet for the least bucks is eBay for a Retail Disc with serial number. Please keep in mind that your machine is old enough to be expecting a hard drive failure and the error code you typed above refers to 2 different types of failures. The first is that you have attached an accessory of some kind which is incompatible with XP. The second, as per Microsoft, is that it is your hard drive that has failed.

However you acquire an XP disc, when you boot from it, let it run Setup to the point where it gives you the option to Repair by pressing the R key. You will have entered a DOS environment. Select the OS you wish to repair and you'll end up at a blinking cursor. Type CHKDSK and hit Enter and CheckDisk will automatically attempt to repair the install and will tell you if the HD is beyond repair if that's the case.

Good Luck

Toshiba satellite p35-s609 screen darken.

It is almost certainly the LCD inverter which is the cause of your issue. It ism ore common for the inverter to develop a fault than a backlight bulb on the LCD (I used to work in a Toshiba repair centre).
Replacing the inverter should be simple, just make sure the unit is powered off with the battery removed so you don't get an electric shock.
Hope this helps,
