Re: vacuum stopped working
Sometimes after years of use the power cord can break internally where you won't see it. Look for damage or twists in the cord. With the vacuum turned on wiggle these areas between your hands and see if it tries to run. If so replace the cord. If not the switch may be bad or the motor needs to be serviced. Good luck. maybe the impeller broke, that is the most common reason for '' loud noise''....then you must remember that the kiby will not switch on [ all G models ] if the bag and the front nozzle is not properly attached.....
Reason number 1 (not sure why Kirby Co. still has not fixed it) - improperly installed outer bag. You have to push the bag all the way to the unit so it presses the safety switch that is between exhaust and the vacuum shell
Reason 2 - defective cord - try wiggling it. If you know how to do it - try removing cord and supplying power directly to the unit using another cord or wire (ONLY if you know how to work with electricity. If you get zapped - do not blame me)
Reason 3 - bad power switch (instructions on how to replace it HERE)
It is possible that the height adjustment on your Kirby is to close to the carpet, which could account for the problem you're having. The correct height adjustment for your Kirby is this-Lower the height adjustment down until you hear a change in the sound, then adjust one more click down. The Kirby is at the correct height for cleaning. If the carpet is different in another room, adjust it the same way for each carpet

the vacuum turns on but wont run smells like burning rubber I took the bottom off and the belts don’t appear to be broken but the one connected to beater bar seems like it may be loose
Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. In answer to your question, the reason it smells like burning rubber is because the belt is too loose and it is burning the inside of the belt because it is to loose, the average belt change for a Kirby vacuum is every 4 to 6 months, the tighter the belt the better the cleaning and always use the genuine Kirby belts because they are designed to work with the Kirby, there are replacement belts that will work and are less but they are made to the correct size but Kirby vacuums always s work better with genuine parts. If you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. http://kirby.comContact Us by Phone United States and Canada 1-800-494-8586 Between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm EST Monday thru Friday www.A-1Vacuum.com1-800-657-1874If you cannot find a local dealer near you they can ship you the parts UPS. The carbon brushes in the motor need to be replaced. Very IMPORTANT....... DO NOT run the Kirby anymore until you get this fixed. If you do, the armature will be in danger of being damaged. (and that part is expensive!) The carbon brushes are reasonably priced, and you can use this online guide to get to them and change them. It's a guide for replacing the power switch, but it will help you change the carbon brushes too. Hope I've helped...
