Same black line on right side problem

I have the same 1 1/2" black line on the right side of copies and faxes problem that many has been reported by others numerous times ... I have cleaned the scanner window and that resolves the problem for 2 or three faxes/copies ... unfortunately it returns with great regularity. I clean it again and it works fine for 2/3 faxes and then resurfaces.

Take out your drum unit and make the blue plastic corona wire cleaner on the drum unit is pushed all the way over to right side. see if that helps.

2" black band prints on right-side of every page

print a report, any report, from your control panel. if it looks good and your band is only on copies and transmitted faxes, that would be your Contact Image Sensor going bad. its located under your document feeder and looks like a sinny piece of glass that runs left to right.

FIRST I would check the scanner glass again you can test it by asking for a report to be tx REPORT.. if this dowsnt have a line on it the problem is either the scanner glass or at worst the scanner unit it self.. I would double check the glass.. get a soft cloth and some glass cleaner on it and give the glass a good rub over. do you have the lines on incoming faxes .. if not the glass or scanner unit is the def area to be looking at, Luck A

Copy and faxes come out with a black line on the left side about an inch from the side.

If your INCOMING faxes have the same black line as your copies then the problem lies in the toner cartridge. A line on OUTGOING faxes and copies would suggest something on the scanner glass. This is a small strip of glass under the cover where your originals are fed into. Another way of testing is to run a report from the operation panel. If a report generated from the machine is ok then it is the scanner glass. If the report has a line then it is in the toner cartridge.
Good Luck

Q. 1 - When I try to send a fax I get an error message that says: Fax Send Report is set to Off Q. 2 - I have an 1/2 inch black line down one side of any copy I try to make.

1. Usually a "fax send report" just means that you will not receive a "receipt" or "confirmation" that the fax was successfully sent. Changing the setting to off is pretty much just saving you ink & paper. When my fax machine report is set to off, I only receive a receipt if the fax was unsuccessful. However, all fax machines are different and have a mind of their your best bet it to refer to the owner's manual or call the company where it came from.

2. The only thing I can think of is maybe you need to replace the plexi-glass on the copier or do an internal wipe of the underside of the glass. Sometimes the ink can smear from underneath when faxed papers get jammed or printed.

A bar code stripe on the right side of the copy.

i'm not sure if you're talking about a solid black band or a bunch of little stripes running down page. does it happen when you run an internal report or only on copies? if its a black solid band, check and make sure the bluish colored tab on top of the drum is all the way to the left side. if its a group of fine lines, depending on whether it happens on internal reports or not, it could be the drum is going bad or you may have a bad scanner. write back with a little more info if this suggestion doesn't work.

good luck,

Black line about 1 1/2 inches wide down side of faxes or copies

if your RECEIVED faxes look good, then leroyal is dead on. you will need a new CIS which stands for contact image sensor. if you have an authorized brother service center nearby, they may be able to do it for 100 to 150.00, depending on their pricing of course. if rec'd faxes are bad also, pull drum out and make sure the blue tab on top of drum is all the way to the right side, although that usually only leaves about a 1/2" black band.

Printing problem

Before we can diagnose the problem, we need a little more info.  Do the internal prints (TX/RX report) also print the line, or only copies?
