I have the same issue with my Vizio 32" tv. I bumped the front corner of the cabinet against a piece of furniture and now it isn't working.

  • rjw34 Dec 31, 2008

lamp blew. if you look through the vent ports you should see a glow. If you don't then you blew the lamp. Actually when you bumped it it got a surge almost like a light bulb would do when you bump it or drop it. when you turn the set on the power supply sends a signal for the lamp to come on. Since the lamp is not functioning everything stops at the lamp turn on sequence and freezes up. that is why you can't turn the set off by the remote or the power button on the tv. almost like a computer when it freezes up, have to disconnect the power from the source. the Vizio is replacing my set because they told me that when that happens it will do damage to the panel too, so instead of replacing or fixing the part and having trouble down the line they rather replace my tv.

you either have a faulty power supply or faulty main board. Vizio power supplies on the older sets are pretty decent. It's usually the main boards that go. These older main boards tend to be pricey so it may be better to buy a new set.

My tv [vizio vf550m] won't respond to a remote.

Vizio is famous for having main board issues. If you have replaced the IR board the only two other items it could be is a broken wire from the IR to main or the main board has an issue. Nothing else can stop the remote from working provided the remote is working properly.

VIZIO TV Black screen. Cannot turn off TV without unplugging.

I had a similar problem after having a Vizio for 2 and a half years. I left the room for a minute, i came back and the screen went black. I didnt hear an arcing sound though. There was still power to the unit and you could see that the back light was working, just no picture, no sound, and you couldn't use any of the buttons. The only way to turn it off was to unplug it. It would then start up, with the Vizio logo going from orange to white, and then do the same thing all over, no pic or sound. I would check the ceramic fuse first on the board that gets power from the plug.

HOW I FIXED MINE: I ordered a new "main PCB" from tigerdirectparts.com (you can also use searspartsdirect.com). This is the circuit board with all of the inputs on it (hdmi, cable, etc.) I opened it up, disconnected the old one, put in a new one and now it works fine.I used both serial numbers on the board to search for it online. It cost me $144 to do it, but that's better than $450 for a new TV. My tv is the vx32l hdtv10a. I hope that helps.

Vizio 42 hdtv mo picture,no sound

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Please check the following—

1. Is Power board output +5V?
2. Is J1 (#19 in the right diagram)connector good?
3. Is DC-DC OK, check the voltage at J1 using a multimeter.
4. Is U4 (3.3V) working ok, U4 is an IC, you’ll need an IC tester or an oscilloscope to check this IC.

After checking this if it still doesn’t work then check P3 D-sub Input (on the D-board). See this schematic for details--

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Vizio remote control not working

Hi, I had the same problem. My vizio remote for my 42 inch 2 month old vizio also seemed to stop working. Here's what I did: My vizio remote (like most remote's nowadays) was designed for multiple components (tv, dvd, vcr, etc). All you need to do to make the remote work again is set it back to tv. Now, the confusing thing about vizio remotes is that they actually have TWO places where you can switch the remote to the appliance you want to control. One is on top of the remote, the other is on the BOTTOM. Switch it back to TV using the BOTTOM. My remote had stopped working because I had inadvently switched it to another component on the BOTTOM component switch.
