Question about Fuji Nexia 265ix Z APS Point and Shoot Camera

1 Answer

Lovely camera, but no manual

My dad "inherited" a Fuji Fotonex 265ix zoom APS camera when my sister died. (It looks like the Fuji Nexia to my inexperienced eye).
He can do the basics, but some of the symbols are a mystery to him. We have tried to track down a manual but were totally unsuccessful. Any ideas please?

Thank you so much for that - I have passed the info on to Dad.

Well its not free, but its a place that appears to have the manual:
http://www.oldtimercameras.com/owneriq/

If you look on the right hand side of that page, you will see a place where you can select the manufacturer and then type in the model name, I just used Fotonex and then scrolled through the results.

Fotonex 4000sl

The Fotonex 4000sl takes APS film cartridges.

You can find out more about the camera here:
http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Fujifilm_Fotonex_4000ix_SL

Although branded Fuji, it was made by Olympus and is identical to the Olympus Centurion.

The Fuji version of the manual can be purchased here: http://www.oldtimercameras.com/stock/Model.asp?Model=8644&ModelPage=true

The manual is no longer supplied for free by Olympus as the camera is 18 years old.

Endeavor 310ix zoom mcr lost directions... what does c h p mean ?

On APS film cameras, the "C" stood for "classic", or standard 3:2 aspect ratio. "H" stood for "High Definition", (16:9 ratio), and P stood for "Panorama", or a 3:1 aspect ratio. Hope this helps!

No vista driver

No there won't be any drivers of any kind for your camera. The Fuji Nexia Q1 APS Point and Shoot Camera uses APS film and is not a digital model.

Where can you get nikon pronea film

Just look out for APS film, the actual brand doesn't matter as whatever the brand they're all made by the same few companies. Kodak Advantix and Fuji nexia are the most common. Get the 400 version for indoors and dull, overcast days, and 200 for shooting outdoors in bright conditions or indoors with flash.

Although it's effectively a dead format now, you'll still find it widely available online and in larger drugstores and supermarkets. Availability outside of major developed nations is very patchy except in areas which attract international tourists, so if that applies to you then you'll have to order online from a stockist such as Amazon.

APS film is more expensive than traditional 35mm film and produces inferior results as the negatives are smaller. Also, try to avoid buying in a large stock of film as the APS system was very badly designed and engineered, regardless of the camera brand. Most APS cameras are now broken and you shouldn't expect your Nikon Pronea to last long. When it does break it's likely to be the film transport mechanism and that will be the end of it as spares are not available.

Which films are used with this camera?

The clue is in the name. It uses APS film, but it's a dying format and is increasingly difficult to buy. When you find some buy just one roll until you've checked the camera works: APS cameras were crippled with a dreadful film transport design and it can be difficult to find one which still works. If broken, then just chuck the camera into the recycling bin: it's worthless and parts are not available.

Nikon Pronea S Film

Ritzcamera.com still lists FujiFilm APS Nexia on their website. I've seen it at Walgreens as well. Any full service camera store should still have the film in stock.
