Slow computer needs help!

My computer, a Gateway 2000 model with Windows XP Pro, is soooooo, slow. I have to run disk cleaner on it every time I use it for it to be bearable, then it is still slow. I realize that at it's age not to expect alot more but I was wondering if you could tell me how to clean up files I do not need anymore, find files I don't need that are not easily seen, without crashing my system which I have done twice already.

Re: Slow computer needs help!

Another thing you might check is if you have Norton... Norton Antivirus has been known to slow PC's down alot, so if thats the case id uninstall that and get a free antivirus like AVG. To do a clean up Go to start - Accesories - System Tools - Disk Clean Up . Then you might wanna try Defrah That too is also located under System tool using the method above to get to it.

Re: Slow computer needs help!

First of all you need to do the old fashion clean up which which is to go into control panel >>the add and remove programs>>then unistall any programs that you don't need like toolbars etc...all that you don't need..... thats the safest way ....then u may want to Go to Start>>run>>and type msconfig go to startup...and lets disable all those process for now ....the choose apply and ok should ask that you restart your system......Go ahead and choose restart ... that should your system start up much quicker than befoere.... another thing is: what anti virus software are u using on your PC ...if it is norton then uninstall that becasue that is a memory HOG... you may want to consider freeavg... let me know how it goes bapplay

Hi carlos,

Im assuming the disc youve been trying to use is new. Most people who have that kind of problem may find that the lens need special cleaning by a trained technician who may have to open up the set. For another quick fix, try another dvd cleaner (trust me, the expensive ones are usually better), and also wipe the dvd from the interior to the exterior!

Hope this helps,

Hi, thank you for visit fixya.
Pull out the speaker cover ( slow toward your self).
You will see screws in the middle , take it out ( maybe is 4 o 6 screws), be careful with any wires connect to panel control. Disconnect any connector to panel control. Pull toward your self , slow and slide up . Use a fine brush for best result, use glass cleaner liquid.
Any question, I will be here.
If you need additional help, please send me a picture front tv and I will show the right process.

Thank you

Blown fuse

You can try a slow blow fuse, but more than likely there is some other issue in the unit that is drawing too much current. By no means would you want to increase the amperage of the fuse. it could cause a fire.

Kv 32hs420 7 slow blinks form the led light sounds comes on but no picture shuts it self down then give me 7 fast blinks hhhhhheeeeelllppppp

The slow blinks are normal at startup. The quick seven blinks indicate that a problem was detected and the set is shutdown to prevent further damage. I'll look up your model later today and post the probable defective parts. Are you planning on attempting the repair yourself?
