Repair of drum bearing

Drum bearings can be a little tricky, depending on the your of machine. One thing I can tell you is you have to dismantle any machine to get to them.

My front loader washing machine is making a kind of squeaky noise when it spins. The washer is working..but wondering what it could be.

If the noise comes from the drum rather than the back of the machine it could be the drum bearings on their way out.
With the drum empty take hold of the top and bottom of the drum edge (from inside the drum). Gently try to lift and lower the drum, you may hear a slight knock - that's the bearings failing. Water enventually gets past the seal on the bearing and degergent in the water dissolves the grease in the bearing, causing it to fail.

When spining it makes very loud noise , like aeroplane when start

Hi.
It definately sounds like the drum bearings have failed.
It is a DIY job, but not easy, as it entails stripping the m/c down,
If it is under 5 years old, then it should be covered by a 5year warranty., you will just have to pay for the labour, certainly the cheapest option.

Hotpoint washing machine

hello im sorry to say that you machine is in serious condition and with out a bearing transplant the prognosis is fatal.

The Problems what it could be
1 drum bearing. should not be tackled by the non technical types because you do need to know what your doing.. depending on what model it is i can give you some instructions.

2. Broken spider on internal drum, (the one that spins) can be done but better tackled by an engineer

3. Something caught in the drum most common one is bra wire.

To check to see if it is the drum bearing then open the door and hold the drum (steel bit lol) at the 12 oclock and 6 o clock and se if there is any movement if so its either problem 1 or 2
if you need any help dont be shy to ask

Washer wont spin belt came off put it back and tested on a spin but then it started making weird noises so we stopped it. turned drum manually but then drum jammed going one way but not the other

two possible causes. first - foreign object stuck between tub and drum. take heater out and you can peer into the gap between tub and drum second - bearings collapsed and im afraid this is the most likely cause. if memory serves me right, hotpoint supply a replacement tub and drum assembly at vast cost. lots of problems with bearings on the wma series

Drum will not rotate

im confused as to why you think no drum rotation would be caused by bearings. typically worn bearings would cause noisy spin. only if bearings were completely seized would that cause no drum rotation. can you rotate drum by hand? if so bearings are not seized. can you hear motor rotate when you select spin? if not, then likely cause is motor brushes. do these simple tests and get back to me if you want. and bearings are quite difficult to replace on this machine
