I have had my PS3 for a while and whenever I try and get internet via an ethernet cable I press for Connect with playstation3 network and it says Unable To Obtain IP Adress even though i've got one! please help
Well, I'm not completely sure how to help exactly. This problem sometimes prompts as "DNS" error followed by an error code. If it displays a DNS error, then your problem is that the PS3 cannot find the modem (and router if you have it connected that way).
DNS errors on the PS3 simply means that it cannot find (see) the modem/router.
One way of correcting this would be to reset your modem (and router if you have it connected that way)by unplugging it (from wall and power port). Keep it unplugged for 1 minute or so. Power down your PS3 at the same time.
Plug in your modem (and router if you have it connected that way) and allow for it to reset.
Now power on your PS3 and go to the network settings and establish a new wired connection. Follow the prompts and test the connection afterwards.
Mind you, this is a general means to solving the problem. Try this first to see if you are successful.
I do hope that this helps you.

you need to bridge, yes the other thing you need to do, is right click on the internet connection and say "Allow other computers to connect to the internet via this connection" this should allow the ps3 to grab an IP address via DHCP
Hi turn both modem and PS3 off. Then connect the ethernet cable from the modem to the PS3 and then turn the PS3 first. Then after the PS3 is completely on, then turn the modem on so the PS3 will get the modem's IP adress. I recommend you get a router and connect it to the modem and the PS3 to the router. It's way better. I hope this helps.
You could have the wrong address, try the following.
Open up the start menu, windows icon bottom left.
Vista/7: In the search bar, type in "cmd" and hit enter.
XP: Click on "run", then type in "cdm" and hit enter.
Now you should have a black screen with white lettering.
Type in "ipconfig" and hit enter. Look for the mention of "Dafault Gateway". The IP listed there should be the address of your router. Type that IP in your browser.
If the above did not work: Connect the computer directly to the router via ethernet cable. Reboot the router then the computer in that order. If you are already connected via ethernet cable, finish off the rest of the steps.
Then repeat the above with doing a ipconfig to find Default Gateway.
connect it with ethernet cable to router. then press setup button scroll to netwrok setup press ok. scroll to view netwrok settings or print netwrok settings press ok. scroll to print netwrok configuration page. get ip adress. open internet explorer type ip adress in adress bar at top. then hit enter. it will open pritner ews page. at top click on networking. then on top left corner under connectivity click on wireless then click on ipv4 configurations. under that click on manuall and put same ip address and default gateways and subnet mask that u see on netwrok configuration page. adn hit apply. then go to netwroking tab and look for wireless setup wizard. click on that run wireless setup wizard from computer. it will successfully connect pritner to netwrok. then disconnect ethernet cable and turn on wireless radio. ur pritner is ready to go. print one more netwrok configuration page to check if u r getting same ip address after disconnecting ethernet. and then try to open ews of pritner again from internet explorer by putting ip address in address bar. if it is successfully opening page ur pritner is connectd to network.
every computer has an ip adress you might have to go to your internet setting and find some thing that says some thing like... internet adress hook up hopefully you keep files on your computer becuase with out your ip adress you might not be able to hook up its sorta like a combination hope it helpes:)
the cable should go to any of the pc's u wish to configure the router with, then all you have to do is configure the router via internet explorer, just type 192.168.1.1 in your adress bar and use admistrator for both password and username(these are the defaults) the pc that u wish to set the router up must be set to dhcp(this is done by going to network connection settings selecting properties then where it says internet protocol(tcp/ip)
select properties and select obtain an IP address automatically(this will make router give you an ip adress)
