Problem for Dell CD ROM Drives

Generic problem for all Dell CD ROM Drives

I have attempted many different methods already to fix this process. I Have updated the drivers. Then i deleted the drivers, and rebooted allowing the computer to detect the missing driver and reload it by itself. I have also tried simply defragging the computer and running virus scans. I am no computer whiz but after calling Dell and tricking them into telling me what the problem was without paying their service fee (haha) I gather it has something to do with the decoders. I'm at a loss for what the %^$& that even means but I'm sure one of you fine folks would.

my granddaughter knocked the tray of her dell demension e510 cdrw combo burner so it won't close. is this fixable or do I need to buy new burner. If so should I order from Dell?

open the pc and check the IDE cable and power cable for this drive if you only have 1 drive then the jumper should be on master . CD-rom drive and DVD-rom drive should connect to master on the jumper, CD-RW and DVD-RW should connect to slave on the jumper that if you have 2 drives on your pc. If you still have problem after you checked all these cable and jumper connection than problem maybe inside the drive check it open the drive to see if there is nothing stuck inside the drive and clean the laser light.
