Question about TransAct Ithaca PcOS Series 50 Receipt Printer

1 Answer

The printer stops during use and will not start back.

Sometimes it sounds like it is spinning inside but the paper does not roll. When it stops I change the paper, ribbon and blow it out with a can of air. I turn it off and on and check for any messages on the computer system. All it says is printer not working. Our computer support says the Mother Board is going out and getting scrambled and we have to buy a new one because you can no longer get parts for this old of a printer. We would like to know if this is true or if we have another option before deciding what to do.

Michael Benson called me yesterday afternoon and spoke with me. He walked me through a check of the machine and agreed it is the mother board going out. He was very helpful and gave me several options of what could or needed to be done. I will speak to our mayor regarding this and get back with your company if we decide to buy a refurbished machine.

Michael was very helpful.

Thank you,
Lynn Rowland

How to change paper

This product uses 2 1/4in (57/58mm) wide standard thermal paper. Use the feed keys only when changing the paper. Do not pull the paper manually.

1. If prompted during use, or when setting up the printer for the first time, open the printer compartment by lifting up on the tabs located toward the back of the register. This will expose the printers.
2. Depending on each sides needs, use the release buttons to open the paper wells and release the print rollers.
3. Place the paper rolls into the paper well so it feeds from the bottom of the roll towards the front of the cash register (not the back). Pull the paper up and past the print heads towards the front of the cash register.
4. Once done, close the printer arms and use the feed keys to advance the paper.
5. To attach the journal roll to the back of the winding wheel, remove the wheel from the comparment. Put a small fold in the end of the journal roll and feed it under and around the tabs located on the wheel. Spin the wheel manually to take up paper slack.
6. Once the paper is attached, place the wheel into the holder in the back of the printer compartment. The part of the winding wheel with two discs should be on the right side.

I have an HP OfficeJet G85xi, and it keeps displaying a "paper jam" error. There's not paper jammed, and the back rollers keep spinning every time I turn the machine on. I've wiped those...

I see you mentioned a Paper Jam Error occurs even if there is no paper Jam in the printer.
You also mentioned that the back Rollers keep on spinning when you turn the printer ON seems the printer still detects a piece of paper inside, if the sensor detects Jams inside the roller will spin trying to roll out the paper it detects, makes sure that all jams in the very inside of the printer is checked for any small piece of paper, it can some times tear and small pieces can be lodged on the sides or stuck somewhere.

When i turn on my printer it blinks a red light.

OK, more information is needed. What kind of printer? Is it out of ink? This may sound stupid, but is it plugged in to the computer? Let me know :)

When I put the paper in the printer and it starts to print I get a paper jam. what am i doing wrong

This is sort of scenario could be caused by dust inside the printer. Dust prevents the rollers from having a firm grip on the paper while picking paper. When one roller has a firm grip and rolls the paper well while the other doesn't, jam/crumpling results or sometimes paper goes in at an angle. So I will suggest you get a long handle brush and try to reach as far inside the printer as possible and brush (from the back and front; if you have a blower please use it as well). This, if properly done should do it. Brush especially the rollers etc.

Good luck and God bless!

Our printer is not picking up the paper from the tray and is saying it is jammed. There is not jam.

Hi there !

Is your printer had jammed before and it stop printing in the middle of printing? For some reasons, paper can jammed due to printing interruptions, printer turn off, improper loading or feeding of paper, roller feeder had problem and others.

If jams before and paper have let inside the printer, please do the following first:

1. Check th paper tray, see inside if the paper is jammed inside that compartment. If there is paper jammed, remove, turn off your printer and turn on. This will solve your problem.

2. If not, open the printer cartridge door, remove the toner cartridge and look for paper jammed inside. If these is paper inside, remove it, turn off the printer and turn it on.

3. If you cannot see the paper jammed inside, the paper maybe inside the heating area. To remove paper, just turn off your printer and turn it on to roll over the paper jammed inside of it.

4. If the printer is blinking and saying there is paper jammed. You have to check the cartridge toner by opening the cartridge door, remove the cartridge and return it back but be sure it is well firmly fitted.

If following the 4 diagnostic procedure and you cannot locate the jammed paper, the problem lies on the toner cartridge itself. When toner cartridge is not rolling over, it will stop feeding the paper and it will cause printer to jammed.

To diagnose the problem, put old printer cartridge and if no toner power, just shake it well and I am sure there is still small amount of powder inside it and if it prints, the toner cartridge you purchase is defective. Reason, factory defect or improper refilling and part is not working well.

I hope it is helpful and thank you for using FixYa !

Printer is saying paper jam and I have cleared out all paper and clippings that were stuck how can I get it to stop saying paper jam?

Happend twice to me. What sometimes happens is that the paper roll was not changed at the time the ink was. Therefore the paper roll was allowed to remain in the printer until the very last sheet. On the last sheet there is a sticker that says paper out. (stupid idea) This sticker makes the last sheet of paper too thick to fit through the last paper guide / feed. Because of this, the ink film breaks and that specific error message is displayed until that last piece of 4x6 is pulled from the inside top paper feed. Clear that out, and all is good.. Change the paper every time u change the ink. Even if its not finished. They give you extra. And clear out all the paper from the cutter traay before you move the printer.
You must open up the front where the roll goes. Lay the printer back, and look up top where the paper ejects. you should see some of the paper in the feed. Pull that out with a tweezers.

Beware. I sent my printer to Sony and they tried to get me for a new cutter and thermal head. Close to $500. I then realized the problem because it happened on another unit I own. I told them to ship it back unrepaired and I fixed it myself.
Hope this helps

Error code-07,010.43:19044 I'am a Tech, and I got this code when testing a machine?

I am a tech also. This sounds like a paper path code.
On some of these machines the motor drives all feed rolls on all trays. Some have independent motors for each tray.
If you are using one tray check to see if that motor is working. Sometimes they will just momentary start then shut off. This could be a bad motor PWB or a main board problem.
Actuators on these sensors will hang up. Check the actuators to see if they are operating. If you can swap a tray sensor with another see if this changes when feeding paper. One sensor might be not working right.
Check the doors to see if they are closing right. The drive rolls might be not be holding on the paper causing stalls and constand paper jams.
Check to see if the rolls are binding. They appear to be fine until you spin the rollers, they should spin free.
Good luck.

I use direct thermal paper with a black mark at

Compare the 2 rolls, Pay close attention to the position ans size of the black mark. The black mark sensor in the zebra 2844 is not (where you would expect it to be) in the centre of the label. It is about 10mm to the right,

Try calibrating the printer to your labels.

Check my other solutions to see how to perform a manual calibration.

Paper feed problem

this is the rare case: there could be two problem 1) either some bit of paper would have been stucked inside the printer 2) or else the roller is not smooth. the roller inside the printer helps to draw out the paper gently.
