Question about Pentax ME Super 35mm SLR Camera

1 Answer

Pentax ME The back of the camera has stopped locking securely when film is loaded. I can't see any apparent defects but the problem is consistent. Without film in the back closes securely and is opened in the usual way. With film loaded the back does not click fully into place and can be pulled open. Result - light sneaks in around the edge of the door, even when in the protective holder. Thanks

A simple fix might be to borrow a page from movie cameramen. Tape it shut with some black hockey tape. I was considering doing this eventhough my ME Super works fine. If you think that looks too getto, then it sounds like a service repair shop is the other answer.

Why is my camera flasing E when I load a new film

Usually it's because the film was loaded improperly. Another cause is a plastic spur gear responsible for moving the film is stripped, that would require repair at a camera shop.

Try lifting up the film rewind knob and pull the back cover. Maybe the back cover is stuck with the old gummy light shield.

Loading film in my vintage camera..help!

The "magic needles" while making the camera easy to load are about as intuitive as a dead skunk, I had a similar confusion when I got an ME Super. Put the film can in the left side of the camera back (the side with the little thing sticking out is the bottom, it looks upside down this way, but that is correct). Next push the film winder down, this will semi-lock the can into place. Now pull the film-lead across the camera and push it down between some of the white "magic needles on the opposite spool(push it in a bit so that it will stay). Next advance the lever; release the shutter. If the spool starts to turn you are doing it right. Now close the door and continue advancing and clicking until the little frame number window on top reads 1.

Manual Rewind Pentax PZ

Hi Joel,

If your battery is dead, just put in a new battery.

Go into somewhere that is completely dark and open the back of the camera and remove the film.
Or go Costco, WalMart and Kmart and they will do it for free.

Film not advancing fully

Are you sure that you have loaded the film properly?
Sometimes if you have not started the film so that the sprocket pulls the film correctly the film can aquire slack and the teeth of the sprocket may not be successfully pulling the film from the canister each time.

i think it means the film hasn't loaded properly. I had this and opened up the back and the film hadn't wound so it wasn't exposed. Anyway i just wound the film around a bit and shut the back and it turned on like normal. hope this helps.
