You will need to turn on the PS3 and hook it up with rca so you can access the console menus. Turn it on and get to the main dashboard.
1. Go to Settings -> Display Settings (not video)
2. Select [ Video Output Settings ]
3. Select HDMI
4. Select Resolution
5. Select Screen Size
6. Save the settings
7. Reboot the console.
This should resolve the problem. We've seen PS3 consoles that would not reset by performing a hard reset. We were able to resolve this issue through the settings menu though.
Let me know if it is still giving you issues.Hank

Try entering Recovery Mode and choose "Restore Default Settings".
If that doesn't help, you may have an HDMI port failure - which will require returning the unit to Sony or sending it to a third-party PS3 repair shop.
You will need the optical cable. My receiver only passes video through the hdmi. So I hooked up the HDMI cable to the tv, and the optical cable to the receiver. Once that is done you have to go to the audio settings for the PS3 and chose audio through the optical.
Hi there, Have you checked that the HDMI Cable is inserted into both your PS3 and HDTV correctly ? if the cable moves about in the HDMI port that causes static sometimes ! Also check that your cable isn't damaged.
If the problem persists. i would just Use your Composite (Red,Green,Blue) connection from your TV to your PS3. you said it doesnt have static problems. and Using the composite cable you can still get the Full 1080p Resolution on your TV that the PS3 can Up-Scale to!
You might want to try another HDMI cable...the one you have may have a short in it. You can find HDMI cables for really cheap online so it's not a big deal to buy on eor two more as back up. Also, try changing the audio settings with in the BluRay or DVD itself. Sometimes the movies can default to an unsuppotred audio format.
Have both the AV cables and hdmi cables hooked up from the tv to the
ps3. On the TV Menu goto the av station which is different from the
HDMi station...From the ps3 menu screen gotot settings then to video
and audio and select hdmi then back to the tv menu and select the hdmi
station and the ps3 main menu should be seen and you are all set
the cables might be faulty so borrow some one elses cables and try them if you have that option or just go back to the cables that came with it for now.
2 questions:
Are you using HDMI cable?
Have you tried your ps3 in any other HDTV?
Heres why I ask you this. PS3 has some compatibility issues with some TVs (or Tvs have it with ps3....that is controversial xD) so if you happen to be so unlucky to have bought an HDTV which ps3 has issues with, you`ll have a problem (as was my case)
In my case whenever I switch resolutions or enter a game the HDTV starts flashing between the ps3 screen and some blank screen with dots. I have to remove the hdmi cable and connect it again and it solves. :D
So please answer my 2 questions in order to discard some possibilities.
