Question about MSI K8N Neo3 Motherboard

Vista Home Premium locks up on a load

I have an MSI K8N Neo3 MB with a sempron 3300+ and 2 gig of PC3200 Memory and a PNY 6600 PCI card. I was running XP Pro and wanted to upgrade to Vista Home Prem. The load starts, then locks on a reboot on the windows green bar screen. I have the latest BIOS 1.7 on the board. Am I still missing something?

Let me know if I need to give more details.

New install. I have waited upwards of 20 mins. Also, I have the AGP, not the PCI express.

How long do you wait before you determine it is locked up? Vista uses minimum graphics to facilitate a faster install. It may seem like nothing is going on when Vista is loading in the background. If it is locking up try a reinstall. Are you upgrading or going a new install?

Yes, you just need to install it into the white Pci-E slot. It should work fine.

Hi,

Judging from the symptoms you describe I suspect that your graphics card is faulty. Did you buy the card new? If so, I would suggest returning it & asking the store to test it for you.
If it is determined that the card is not faulty, reply to this post & I will try to help you further.

Best wishes,

I have a problem. On my motherboard MSI k8n neo3 the cooler on chipset doesn't work? What should i do?

Asuming the fan itself has failed, buy an aftermarket fan. They are usually self-adhesive.

CMOS Settings for PNY GeForce 8600 GT

One question, why do you want to change the voltage of the PCI express, have you by any chance overclocked your machine? If not the default values should do fine since the 8600GT is not a power hog.

If you have overclocked then the recommendation is that you try to see if you set the PCI frequency to 100 (default) so that the PCI-e bus does not get overclocked, as its known that some devices fail when the bus is increased (such as the SATA hard disks, etc).

You will also not have to change the voltage of the PCI-E bus unless you have aggressively overclocked your machine.

NX7800GTX-VT2D256E and MSI K8N Neo4/SLI

What's the specs on your power supply. For SLI you need a good quality 500W+ PSU with lots of current on the 12V rails. Remember that all the drives, memory, fans, cpu, etc will use a lot of power, if there is not enough capability in your PSU, the voltage may drop low enough to stop it starting up.
