Color messed up

The color is messed up thanks to a 4 year old visitor. Is there a reset button that I can use to return to factory setting. Currently the screen is dark and the menu cannot be read.

Re: Color messed up

Most likely your visitor turned one of the controls located on the back of the TV. There are only two controls they are the right side of the set in the back. The top one is the focus and the bottom one is the SCREEN control. You can carefully rotate clockwise the screen control until the brightness is back to normal. If you go to high with it you will see faint diagonal lines going accross the picture.

Fix color?

You may have a picture reset button available to you in your menu choices under display or picture. If not you will see a menu with color, contrast and brightness or something along those lines. With your remote make all of the settings for these the same with them set in the middle of the virtual slider. That will even you out and you can adjust to taste from there.

These settings are depends to personal preferencess and location brightness. I would suggest to set all of them to zero and then work your way out on individual settings. Obviously this tv is an old set (that is my assumption) so it does not have a factory reset.

Color problem

It sounds like the set has become magnetized. It could possibly be from an external speaker magnet or some other magnetic field (ie. a vacuum motor). It could also be a malfunction in the built in demagnetizer circuit. Color picture tubes are very sensitive to magnetism. Because of this there is a built in demagnetizer circuit. If this circuit malfunctions it can cause the same problem. Turn the set off and unplug it for 30 minutes or so. This will allow the circuit to cool off and reset. Turn the set back on and see if it returns to normal. Also, dropping the set or a heavy jar can warp the shadow mask inside the tube causing the same problem. If the unplugging method does not work, have a shop check it for you. Thanks for using fixya.

Have an RCA console, color, 26" screen. Over 30 years old. Hooked up to cable and DVD player. Overnight the color disappeared and reception is black and white. Did color guns go out?

If you can see white, then all the CRTs are functioning. Make sure that the channel is set correctly. If the DVD is sending out channel 3 and the TV is set to channel 4, you will see the picture, but in B&W, Check that first. Let me know if that does not resolve it.

Tv color messed up

There is the chance that the yoke has sliped and a purity adjustment is in order, since you would be dealing with voltages that could kill you if you don't know haw to do this the safest bet would be to take it to the shop

Black Mess

Most settings and configurations except the Parental Lock could be reverted to factory default by doing a full hard reset. This is done by simply unplugging the unit from the mains for a couple of hours (or overnight preferably). If done and the system/TV will do a reset, all your settings (color, brightness, program selection) will be back to normal (or factory default).

Most parental Locks works with a code or password. Unfortunately, often this requires the use of the original remote that came with the TV.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Need to know how to acess the service menu

First, I would do a factory reset. Press power on the TV to turn it on. Press SET UP on the front of the TV. Press CH- (channel down) Next, on the remote control, press MENU. Make sure the cursor is beside VIDEO and press RETURN. Press the UP and DOWN or + and ? buttons to scroll to the item you want, and press RETURN. Press the UP or DOWN (+ or -) buttons to adjust the item AND press RETURN to save the setting. Do this for each category you want to adjust. We hope this helps you, and please let us know if you need any additional troubleshooting. Best regards. nightdiver
