I have 4 sticks of memory that are Corsair XMS 2x1024, (2GB) and I have already got 2 installed. My question is I have installed the other two and now have 4 sticks. The LED lights are working, but the WinXP username screen when trying to log in, restarts the computer. any suggestions..

okay! I have taken out the 2 new sticks and works like a champ. When the 2 new sticks go in, no access.. so, not sure if it is the log in winlogon.exe file? My MOBO is dual channel and supports up to 8GB. confused? I should have no problem with installing 2 new sticks of the Manuf., the exact same models, (memory)

Winlogon.exe has become corrupted....shouldn't be memory related.....try using safe mode to restore your pc from a restore point....alternativly you'll need a boot disk like ERD commander to boot from cd and get to a restore point

Using Corsair XMS Memory 2 1g sticks and works good, tried putting 2 more memory modules to upgrade to 4g and goes into a post loop??

The memory should all match each other (same type). That board should handle up to 16gb using DDR2 1066/800/667 modules, although Win XP can only go to 3Gb.

How do I install a memory card?

hi this is quite simple to do, open your case, locate the memory that is already installed, on either side of the memory stick there are 2 leaver looking items, push them downwards till they click, as you do this the memory stick will rise slightly, once both leavers are pushed down fully you can then remove the memory stick, keeping an eye on the location of the cut out in which way the stick came out, then position your new one in the same way and push it home, the 2 leavers will then raise up and click to lock the new memory stick in place, and then just replace the side cover of your pc and you are done...hope this helps

Is this a brand-new motherboard, still replacable under warranty,
or a "well-worn" motherboard, with one or more capacitors that are either bulging or leaking, when you visually take a close inspection of the motherboard?

Abit AW8 LGA775 Maximum memory

Hi there
Sounds like the bios will need updating as the board will support 8BG ram.
Put your old memory back in the machine, boot into windows, go to the motherboards manufacturers website and download the latest bios update and install it and reboot.
make sure you read the info on how to install the bios update.
I must also warn you that if you are using a 32bit operating system it will only recognize 2.9BG of memory, there is nothing you can do about this apart from install a 64bit operating system if the board supports 64bit processors.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!

Pc died

Hello, I have had similar problems with that same motherboard in the past and have found that resetting the cmos (see users manual) or just taking the battery of the motherboard for a few minutes can solve this. CAUTION please remove the power lead on your tower before touching any components inside, and earth yourself first by touching metal.. as static discharge kills pc components..
Hope this helps.....
